So instead I grabbed Hulick's Among Thieves. I was looking for something filled with action and a fast moving plot, so hopefully this does it. I also have Stephenson's Baroque Cycle on queue, along with Kay's The Lions of Al-Rassan.

The style stays the same throughout. The exposition gets less heavy, and things do start happening once the titular Mistwraith is actually confronted--then it gets less about saying and thinking, and more about things happening. I can certainly see this not being for everyone, though.

Alright, thanks Ment. The princes just began fighting the wraith, so I might pick it back up from there in a week or so. I just needed to switch it up, having not finished the book in over two weeks (since Lynch's newest).

Finally finished with GGK's A SONG FOR ARBONNE,, it took quite a while,, it's good, not great but not bad,, his strength is his characterization,, i only have a few quips:

aside from Urte de Miraval, none of the other important characters died, i know Urte had to die for Bertran de Talair's resolution.
and the twist, the revelation of Arianne de Carenzu that Bertran had another child although was good for the resolution felt quite flat, as the said child was only seen for a few times,
3 that i know and remember, so it didn't have any emotional impact aside from the 'ooh, so that was it' moment.

well, that's it and i'm gonna have to go and buy the rest of Kay's books (undecided about YSABEL) and gonna read first TIGANA, to read/see the love/hate in this book.

I'm having a grand time reading the first Horus Heresy books. Having avoided 40K novels until now, I can honestly say they aren't so bad after all, atbeit far too short.
On the other hand, there's Forge of Darkness, and it's eating up all my time at the moment. Wonderful stuff, a joy to read.

Reading Michelle [Sagara] West's "House War' novels at the moment, and just finished _Skirmish_. Am postponing proceeding to _Battle_ until I finish her latest Elantra book, _Cast In Sorrow_.

Finished my Vorkosigan re-read up to 'Winterfar Gifts' (on Kindle). I'm sure I have _Diplomatic Immunity_ around here somewhere, along with the currently last two books, _Cryoburn_ and _Captain Vorpatril's Alliance_, so looking forward to those and seeing Ivan step out of Miles's shadow

Do yourself a favor and move onto River of Stars soon. I thought Under Heaven was the better of the two, but that was just because I liked the characters better. Both are incredible reads.



I've finished Hulick's Among Thieves. I'm impressed, it was much better than I was expecting and was a great debut novel. It had a nice fast pace, a lot of action, some clever dialogue, and an interesting world. Just what I was looking to read. Hopefully the next book is just as good when it comes out in May.

Done with Scalzis The Ghost Brigades, its was ok but I won't stand in line for his next work. And now over to a reread of River of Stars.

Finished the last Baroque Cycle book "The system of the World". Stephenson's firmly one of my top 10 writers of all time after this. just brilliant.

The ending did veer toward predictable, but considerign the pseudo-genre stylistics Stephenson adopted for this trilo, this type of ending was a good thing.

I have two more Stephenson books on my bookshelf--"Cryptonomicon", which is thematically related to the baroque cycle, i was led to believe, and the first volume of "The Mongoliad". I will take a break and read somthing else in between though. not sure what, yet, though.

Reading Cryptonomicon will change the meanings of certain things within the Baroque Cycle (and vice versa). That'll be a fun experience for you.

Finished audiobooks Shadows Linger and Ex-Patriots yesterday and finished reading The Story of the Stone (2nd Master Li and Number Ten Ox). First two were really good, though I found Ex a bit cliche for my taste and the villain's Spanish is incorrect in a few instances which is jarring, but still a solid listen, and fun. The Story of the Stone was fantastic and has cemented Barry Hughart as my favorite Asian-themed fantasy writer. Also almost finished with Old Tin Sorrows after having taken a year hiatus from Garret P.I. Love this series; fast, fun, and witty.

Think I may give The Chronicles of Amber a try next, or Against a Dark Background, or Tyrant's Law (sort of waiting for the next to be released so it will be fresh in my mind, though this may be a year away).

Read the first trilogy plus THE SILVER SPIKE years ago, but couldn't find the rest until the omnibuses were released. Bought all the ominbuses a couple years ago so I can finally finish the series. But first, a re-read of the original trilo.

Also still reading S. Now that I have gotten into the game of finding hidden websites and cracking codes, I'm liking it better. I'm still kinda doubting the payoff is going to justify the time and effort, but we'll see.

Interesting. I finished The White Rose a couple of weeks ago and The Silver Spike last night. Loved the former. Haven't quite figured out how I feel about the latter. Moving on to Pratchett's Mort.

The Silver Spike is an oddity, but it has to happen in order to make some of the events in the rest of the series make full sense.
