I'm rereading Deadhouse Gates because the Chain of Dogs story is so fucking awesome!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Just finished Le Guin's Lathe of Heaven - is it me or did the guy who wrote Paprika (I'm assuming the book's fairly similar to the film) definitely read this at some point (not total resemblance but the ending certainly has similarities [although Le Guin seems quite pro-mysticism, whereas it's a mystic idealism that seems behind the Chairman's disdain for the DC Mini project]).

Edit: Of course, it may be a case of a shared primary source, e.g. perhaps Chuang Tsu and his philosophical thoughts on dreams.

Considering I've never read him, and he's such a big name I picked up THE LORD OF LIGHT by Roger Zelazny...reading it now. Hope I like it.

It's a great book, though you need to have some rudimentary knowledge of Hinduism and Buddism to get the full experience I think.

I got about 40 pages into LORD OF LIGHT and was baffled. LOL. I will give it another go down the line, as I'm not in the mood for "baffling" "sort it out" fiction right now...

So I've gone and started SAILING TO SARANTIUM by GGK. This will be my first book of his I've read after LIONS that actually does take place in the same world, just in a different time. Excited to get into it.

Yeah, I'll probably spin out and get the second this week, as I'm already digging this one heavily.

It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Well, I guess I'm not done with Shannara just yet: FIRST KING OF SHANNARA.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Though I am totally in the minority, that is actually my fave volume of the entire series. I just found the story of the precursor events SO much more compelling than the original trilogy.

S'funny - i found it one of the least interesting, with Brookes just churning out his usual archetypes and situations with minimal effort at making anything new or different. It wasn't 'bad', but far from my favorite SHANNARA book.

It should probably be noted that it was my first Shannara book. I didn't read the original trilogy and beyond till after...since it was a prequel I thought it best to start there. It made me view the original trilogy (written so many years before) feel utterly cliched, where FIRST KING felt fresh to me.

Which is the exact opposite for me, since i read FIRST after the original trilo and the LEGACY quad, at which point there was for me nothing in it that hasn't been done in the prior seven books.

I did enjoy the VOYAGE trilo, tho i haven't read an SHANNARA since then.

I read the first one that came out after the VOYAGE trilogy. It threw out anything that made VOYAGE interesting and went straight back to all the Shannara tropes. I haven't read any after that.
