just browsed the FR section for Prince of Thorns, and read Wert's review and i have to admit I didn't see it that way:

so i guess that made sense now, i didn't finish reading the whole thead, as there were already spoilers for King, as i tend to avoid reading reviews with too much spoiler, and/or until i have read the book,
i read Pot with not much expectations, just with good faith in reccos here,

well, anyway, started again with Lynch's Lies, been stuck in the book 2 of this book, and after reading the news of Lynch's 3rd book release, i'm now more motivated to finish this soon,
(also the Gollancz cover art ver is so good!)
also read the prologue chapter of Royal Assassin

Nice! I picked up my copy on a second-hand bookstall in town about 20 years ago for about 50p. Best value book ever.

I didn't think anything I read this year could surpass American Elsewhere, but I think I may have found it in Robert Silverberg's Lord of Darkness. An absolute masterwork, and a harrowing, exhausting ride. Wow.

Almost done with The Winds of Khalakovo and I'm loving it. So much so that I contributed to the kickstarter to get the 3rd book out.

Pat's reviews of books 1 & 2 caught my interest and when he linked to the discounted ebook of Winds I had to take the plunge.

Still slogging through The Way of Kings. It's okay, but I'm convinced it would be better with roughly half of it edited out. But then I felt the same about the second and third Mistborn books, so I guess I'm just not going to be a Sanderson fan <<shrugs>>

This book was awesome. Sheer unadulterated superhero vs zombie madness awesome. It's popcorn reading at its best and worth your money.

Anyone who is or was ever a superhero comics fan is likely to enjoy the fuck out of this book. Zombie fans... well, this is more ARMY OF DARKNESS than THE WALKING DEAD, but i suspect it has enough undead goodness to hold attention.

I give Clines serious credit for making his heroes relatively original even within the confines of the archetypes (his 'Iron Man' is a 90lb gov scientist lady, his 'Batman' is a former lingerie model.. trust me, it works...), for writing some over the top excellent action scenes (he does brilliant work with powerful characters beating the crap out of each other.... with zombies) and still having a coherent plot, good characterization and a great sense of pace. He even nails the snappy patter and one-liners.

If i had one critique it's that he intros a lot of secondary 'mere human' characters by name as if we already know who they are, ie: "Billie and Fred opened fire" and we don't know who Billie and Fred are supposed to be til that instant, but it's a minor critique in a great fun book.

I have the sequel EX_PATRIOTS lined up and i'm psyched for it.

Ex-Heroes Audiobook isn't as great. Though the content is good, they switch back and forth between a male and female narrator in jarring ways making immersion very difficult. It's still good, mind you, but I'm not getting lost in it the way I do other books. I'll definitely be reading Ex-Patriots, not listening to it. Also almost through reading A Once Crowded Sky. Book is fucking fantastic. Soldier's back story is awesome. Hell, all their stories are and the characterization, the story, action, pace, and everything are superb. Next up, Soon I Will Be Invincible to cap off my superhero run for now.

Anyways, I recently finished Declare by Tim Powers, which was everything all these other cold war/spy thrillers with lovecraftian undertones wants to be. Great book and much recommended, although the great finale went by a lot faster than I would have liked.

Now onto David Brin's Existence, a book of which I feel somewhat sceptical, but hopeful all the same if that makes sense.

I'm not sure, but I do think a couple of the nowadays cities\towns\village have different names then they had in Feudal Japan.

Perhaps you could if there is a map of Total War: Shogun 2.

I have the special edition of the game, so perhaps there is a map in the case.

that the town at the beginning of the book Anjiro is 300 miles from Osaka however it didnt give what direction Osaka was in. So I figure its either on the big middle island or the bottom island of Japan.

No map in the box, have to re install the game to check the in game maps.

Just realized there might be a map along with the mini series, will check that one.
