Did you:

Spoiler

That was exactly what I did :) So clever! :p

Spoiler

I so enjoyed those books.

Yes, thanks to you both for recommending them - I would never have known about them otherwise :p

Reading the first Black Company Omnibus. Finished the first book and I'm moving onto the second. I have to say that I love it. The style took a bit to get used too (I'm used to more descriptions in my books - then I remember it's a sort of journal) but it's damn good. Goblin and One-Eye are hilarious.

I'm reading PAPRIKA by Yatsuki Tsutsui (which is cerebral awesomeness)....but am picking up Jack Campbell's DAUNTLESS tonight...and if what I've heard of the series is true, I'll probably be getting stuck into that soon.

So I bought DAUNTLESS by Jack Campbell...and I guess I'm the voice of dissension among the ranks. I did not connect with it at all. I only got through about 100 pages before putting it down. While I thought it was an interesting way to approach it, It kept feeling "rushed" to me, and in 100 pages I wasn't given enough character development on anyone, let alone Geary to care one iota for them. It just seemed like it was going through the motions. I may give it another try down the road, but I fear it may simply not be for me.

Instead I got back into THE SAINT omnibus by Abnett...gods it's good to be back with Gaunt and the Ghosts!

Cold Days so gooooood...!
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

A short summary of the last 2 weeks. On soundbook: The king of thorns, still awsome and I can't wait for Emperor. Book: The daylight war, not that great. The hole book feels like a transportstage and I hope the next one will improve. Currently reading The book of transformation, no characters from the two previous books in this one, but still entertaining.

39. High Moon (graphic novel) by David Gallagher - Werewolf western, as you might have guessed from the title. As Zuda Comics go, I preferred Celadore by Caanan Grall.

40. The New Time Travelers: A Journey To The Frontiers Of Physics by David Toomey - A good overview of "time travel"-related physics. See also How to Build a Time Machine by Paul Davies, Time Travel In Einstein's Universe: The Physical Possibilities Of Travel Through Time by J. Richard Gott, and The Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene.

41. The Faded Sun Trilogy by C. J. Cherryh - Picked up this one after enjoying Foreigner. Found it kind of boring. I'll be reading The Chanur Saga next and I think that will be more up my alley. Based on the cover, I think it's like those Where's Waldo books, except you're looking for a 70s era porn star amidst a sea of cat people.

I found Faded Sun fascinating; it's on my definitely-need-to-reread-one-of-these-days list. A word of warning on the Chanur books: The series consists of a standalone book, followed by a trilogy, followed by an (unnecessary, IMO) standalone sequel. The omnibus pictured includes the first three books, but does not include the concluding volume of the trilogy (Chanur's Homecoming, also available in an omnibus with the fifth book, I believe.) You will definitely want to track that down.

Done with the Book of Transformation, and after the downtrip that was the Daylight War, BoT exceeded my expectation. And I have to say that I am curious about what will happen next.

Ordered Blood and Bone a while ago, but it still hasn't arrived yet. I have King of Thorns to read as a worthy consolation prize however. The teaser in Prince of Thorns hooked me in (hur hur hur), so I went and bought that today.

just finished with Best Served Cold, and it was intense!!! i will say again, that i love this more than the previous 1st tri, and i will re-read this maybe sometime before i start with The Heroes or after Red Country, as i have two copies of BSC, a Gollancz and Orbit TPBs (with a beautiful cover of Monzcarro Murcatto,) the Orbit one is the one I'll read, though I originally planned on not really reading this, just for collection purpose/display,

i must say, though not really criticizing or whatev, but JA sort of fall to the trick of:

Spoiler

and a question:

Spoiler

also finished the other day with The Gap into Vision: Forbidden Knowledge, taking a break from Donaldson's books, also read the 1st chapter of Magician: Apprentice,

and deciding which to read next, maybe i'll go back to Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice and/or The Lies of Locke Lamora,
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Go for the lies of Locke Lamora. Without doubt the best of them.

Giving Retribution Fall a new try now that I am home, and I have to say it's much more to my liking this time then the first try.

I dunno, I'd probably rank Assassin's Apprentice over The Lies of Locke Lamora. The latter was great, but Fitz's story is far more interesting in my mind.

The Lies of Locke Lamora blows away Assassin's Apprentice imo.

I just love how publishers make it such a wild goose chase for their readers. It looks like the later ones are out of print, too.

Hey book publishers, I would have time to buy and read more of your books if I didn't need a magic decoder ring to figure out which books in which series are available in which editions. Keep entire series in print in the same edition, or don't bother. But the half-assing has got to stop.

I read the first half of Assassin's Apprentice and really didn't get it. Nothing cool or interesting happened at all.
