We didn't have one thread for all things Trek so I've made one.

And I'll start us off.

I was in my feelings about Patrick Stewart on Friday and re-watched YESTERDAY'S ENTERPRISE with my son. Still a banger episode!

But since I'd signed up for Paramount+ to watch it (yes I know, but Trek!)...I decided to finally check out STARFLEET ACADEMY, a show that seemed to get a drubbing from the usual ne'erdowell toxic man children online because it dares to feature women, POC, and LGBTQ+ people in it...but I also heard some people just ripping on it from a writing standpoint (largely seeming to only stem from the premiere episode and nothing deeper)...and I just hadn't had the service it was on so I had not watched it.

I checked it out and I'm 5 episodes into it now and it's EASILY my 2nd fave Kurtzman-Trek-Era show after SNW...it's wonderfully serving up Trek packaged not in a ship on a journey, but at a different level trying to help reunite the universe 100 years after the Burn and reestablish Starfleet in San Fransisco...it's well cast and I like all the characters, especially Holly Hunter's Lanathanite Nahla Ake and Bella Shepherd's Genesis, and even the lead guy Caleb Mir...

I think what baffles me most is that most times people dismiss this era of Trek for not being cerebral or problem-solve enough and more action based...but this show is literally doing the talking and science stuff up...in the first few eps they have to try to get Beta Zed back into the Federation...after the Burn they put up a wall around their systems and need to be coaxed away from that...

There is a ship, it's also part of the Starfleet Academy in San Fran, the ship The Athena (which is GORGEOUS BTW) looks like the Academy logo when is space, and the long wings as programmable matter nacelles stay in orbit while the saucer section lands to become part of the school and takes off when they need to go into space for a mission.

I seriously don't understand the (non-toxic) complaints at all...the writing is great, the music is great, the acting is good, the cast is doing a solid job and the stories feel innately Trek to me as a long time fan.

I'm sad it's been cancelled, but at least I have the second season to look forward to before that happens.

If you're a Trek fan at all, check this out. As long as you're not expecting TOS/TNG/SNW type "crew on a ship" type show, you should be in for a treat. I would love it to get uncanceled.
