Hello, I'm currently midway to the book and there's something that I don't understand.
Why Malaz soldiers are going against Tiste Edur? I know that they cannot stay at Malaz but I think I miss their motive to invade Lether continent.
Thanks!

The Edur murdered and enslaved all the people in Sepik, which was a Malazan protectorate. The Bonehunters fleet discovers it in The Bonehunters, shortly afterwards (or before, I can't remember) their fleets pass by an Edur fleet. That's when Quick Ben does his Eres'al possessed Above Boat Float.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

The Edur had also fought the Malazans back in House of Chains on Drift Avalii.

Furthermore, back in Memories of Ice Ganoes Paran got some dire prophecies from the Deck of Dragons about how Edur fleets had begun sailing the seas ravaging places, were seeking out the throne of shadow, and how awful it would be if they found it, plus some general bad vibes suggesting the new Edur-Letherii empire was bad news for everybody. That information probably hasn't percolated from Ganoes to the rest of the Malazans directly, but he did tell some others like Quick Ben about it (or at least part of it), plus who knows if other Deck Readers, seers, prophets, etc, in the Malazan Empire or perhaps in the Bonehunters themselves have been reaching similar conclusions.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.
