[Khanna]

In Chapter 3, Malazan squad soldiers are chatting among themselves. At one point Cuttle throws a disk into a fire. The disk is a playing piece from a board-game called Troughs. Then Koryk says:

K: "That wasn't a real Troughs piece, was it?"
C: "Why wouldn't it be?
K: "Because those things get thrown around!"
C: "Only when I lose."

What does Koryk mean by "because those things get thorwn around." Does he mean that those pieces are used often? I just couldn't figure it out.

I'm guessing, because I don't remember the scene well, but I think Cuttle had made some kind of munition out of a Troughs piece, or pretended to, and Koryk is reacting to 'wait, you made a munition out of a Troughs piece. Because they get handled roughly, and handling explosives roughly is dangerous.'
