1899 starts today, and I am totally excited about this. Dark remains one of my favorite series.

I’ve heard literally nothing about this. But if they created Dark, I’m giving it a shot.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Looking forward to it too, know nothing about it other than it is from the makers of Dark and apparently it's a really slow burn and I love shows like that. That is enough for me!

Started the first episode. Going in blind except for that teaser that came out a year ago.
It feels like a show made by the Dark people. I love that there's like five or six languages possibly being spoken in any given scene.
Is there meant to be a connection between the two shows? The captain of the ship looks a lot like the time traveller in Dark.

I definitely need to be keeping an eye out for triangles in the show. And make up lots of crazy theories about their meaning and connection to the characters.

The ship captain is played by the same actor as time traveler jonas, though to my knowledge there is no tie between the shows, otherwise. We made it through the first 2 eps but were starting to nod off during the 2nd (not because of the show!) so we're going to go back and rewatch both before continuing.
There is triangle imagery all over the place and very obviously. For what it's worth. I wonder if the creators know that Dark fans will be studying for clues everywhere, and so will throw things out that will mean nothing this time...

Episode 1 spoilers
Also on a sidenote. The Danish actors are annoying me. You wouldn't know it unless you speak our beautiful language but these actors are speaking modern "Rigsdansk". They're not even attempting an 1800s dialect.
I wonder if this is the same with the German or Spanish actors?

Spoilers for episode 2.
This show is doing a good job of imitating Lost.

is this horror or mystery?
avoiding trailers etc because they suck balls and ruin stuff.
also, is this "Dark" required watching, and same original question, don't want horror but tangled mystery is aok

Two eps in, I'd say it's more mystery than horror and would guess it'll remain that way.
Dark might be the best thing I've seen on any screen in 15 years. It's an absolute mindtrip mystery that is brilliantly made and acted. 3 seasons with a pretty satisfactory conclusion. My highest recommendation for Dark. There's a thread for it here.
I should say you shouldn't have to have seen Dark to watch 1899.

I would say there's no horror in the show at all. Horrible things happen but it's more of a sci-fi thriller and mystery.

I forgot to watch season 3 of Dark! The horror. I'm going to have no idea what's going on after such a long break.

I haven't watched Dark Season 3 either. I remember starting the season but I don't remember getting past episode 1.
I really should go back and watch it but I have trouble concentrating an hour after getting home from work. My brain turns to mush.

Dark is required tv watching but I think you'd be losing out going into season 3 with not much memory of what come before.

What is up with the entire ship being painted black on the outside? Was that normal back in the day?

I would HAVE to re-watch S1 and 2 again before S3 if I hadn't seen it yet. Just watching 3 eps of 1899 has me wanting to watch Dark again.

I think perhaps it was? The hulls were made of steel, I would imagine it was a protective coating from saltwater. The hull of the Titanic was black too, wasn't it? I keep thinking of pictures of it in my head and I think it was...
