When rereading MT, I noticed that Shurq shares her surname with the Draconean Soletaken that is son of Udinaas. Anyone think this will become important later?

I certainly think that the boy will be important... not so sure if the name Elall is. the crazy theories thread in the Bonehunters forum has something in it.
There was speculation posted before that perhaps the step-parents of the boy were Letherii slaves who had escaped to the Meckros city, but I can't remember whose theory that bit was. ;)

The parents of the boy were Letherii slaves according to the book...

Elalle may be a very common name, but I would guess that those escaped slaves are somehow related to Shurq. Will check the crazy theory thread.

As i recall "Ellalle" means something in the trader tongue, found child or something? so shurq ellale likely also means something in the trader tongue.

Personally I don't think that the two are in anyway related.

I think it was the newborn Eleint's first name that meant "found". He was called Rud Elalle, and Rud means found according to Udinaas.

yep.. that's true..
Rud is not related to Shurq by blood, and as I see it any significance can only come from his being soletaken - heheh oh yeah, and his step aunt is dead of course.. sort of.

Your last comment made me think:

Which step aunt? Couldn't Shurq be an aunt as well?

Just a thought.

Seeing as Shurq sailed off with Iron Bars and crew, she may be in later books (The Avowed are too cool never to be seen again, surely?)...and Rud certainly will (there would be no point in including him in the story otherwise).

Well strictly speaking, his biological parents are an Eleint soletaken and his father a Letherii slave (Udinaas).
His step father (for want of a better word) was named Araq Elalle - similar name to Shurq. So if there is a relationship between Araq and Shurq, Rud can only be at best, a step nephew, rather than a biological nephew? ;)

Does it really matter? Knowing Erikson, it will matter much! I think there may be a connection, because that is what SE likes to do...
