The news is going around the internet:

No info on the cause yet. He was just 72.
Goodkind, for good or bad, has quite a history on this forum and I'll be damned if he doesn't get a send off thread.

In many ways, his batshit writing pre-saged the world we currently live in by being full of weird kinks being unnecessarily public, libertarian ideas sliding into fascism, and somehow making him lots of money.
He sold a lot of books. He was a dickhead and it will probably take a couple generations for *that audience segment he wrote for* to forget the books he wrote.

I can't disagree with any of this.
He was also a poor writer...it would be different if he was like James Cameron....an asshole and social pariah but able to produce wonderful films...but he's not, he was an asshole, who wrote dreck, who treated his audience like jerks if they didn't like his work, and even the ones who enjoyed his work.

It was a good book
It was an Ok first book for a starting author. Rehashing his idea that a woman is only important if she almost (or does) get raped and the eventual descent into relatively random anti-fascism tirades, except calling fascism communism, along with the pretty big inability to get away from the tropes that have been plaguing mediocre fantasy novels for years is what drags it down.
Also the chime chickens.

Read Wizards First Rule, years ago. I thought it was ok, neither terrible nor brilliant. Never read any of the others.

Oh Wizard's First Rule has a lot of problems. Namely the rape.
But that princess kick was sweeet!

Anyone else still here from the times we'd go raiding the WFR forums to troll?
Or we had that guy here who was an avid fan and he kept getting wrecked by.... damn, can't remember the dude, but he had "Lemming of Discord" as his sig, which was an insult Goodkind used for people that didn't like his books.

Well, well, well... No more not-chickens, I guess. To be fair, I wasn't aware his series had still been going, but he even churned out five installments within less than a year? Dear heavens, that's worse than Sanderson.
I'm sure his loved ones are sad and I'm not happy for their grief, but I sure am happy these books are finally done with.

I remember one huge Goodkind fan. Was only here for a bit before he got deployed. Gatekeeper maybe?
Good dude minus the Goodkind fandom.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

I'm on a flight next to someone who is reading a Sword of Truth Goodkind book and wearing their mask below their nose. Correlation or causation?

They only have the mask over their mouth so you can't see them quietly mouthing the words while trying to breathe.

You know, I've never actually read Sword of Truth. I've been thinking lately that I should force myself to do so as a right of passage.
Edit: WIZARDS FIRST RULE only. I'm not crazy enough to do the whole thing.
