I really want to read a high fantasy series that's set in space. Any suggestions? :D

Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun series straddles the line between Fantasy and Science Fiction, some of it being set in space. It's a challenging series, but very rewarding.

I'll check it out, thanks!
Not a huge fan of Star Wars haha. I'm sure there'll be some people outraged at that!

The Dune series are the most famous of these. Most people call these space operas, so there's lots of lists that have the best.

If you want something Malazan like - the Gene Wolfe books that start with the New Sun are amazing.

I genuinely had to rack my brain to come up with something that fit, but Margaret Weis' STAR OF THE GUARDIANS series may be worth a look. 4 books, very much magic in an sf setting... draws on Star Wars but goes it's own way. Low action high character plots.

The Void Trilogy by Peter F Hamilton is a huge sweeping sci-fi space opera with a random seemingly almost unconnected fantasy sub plot that runs through it. Might be what you're looking for. However if highly recommend you read his Commonwealth Saga (2 books) beforehand as those books lead to the Void Trilogy and explain it. Though the Commonwealth Saga does not have the fantasy element to it.

Celia Friedman's Coldfire would fit the bill. Ostensibly a high fantasy following on from humankind leaving Earth, but then losing the technology to achieve spaceflight again.

Book one was pretty great.

Seconded. I didnt read the commonwealth books before hand and it was largely okay, you just have to take a malaz approach towards this.

Ah right I wasn't sure how it would play out without the Commonwealth Saga beforehand though now I think of it there was a large gap in between me reading the series so I'd forgotten most of the follow on characters anyway...

The Caine books - Heroes Die, Blade of Tyshalle, Caine Black Knife, and Caine's Law - are science fantasy too although they don't take place in space, which seems to be one of your requirements.

CAINE... I love CAINE, but Caine never goes to fucking space. Probably bcs you can't murder space.

Similarly COLDFIRE... I love that trilo, and it IS sf as much as fant, but spaceless.

The request was for space opera w fantasy... I dunno if the OP is open to comics, but SAGA certainly fits the bill. Also DREADSTAR.

Warhammer 40k the Hours Heresy books are the obvious answer. You'd have to defer to someone else on which ones are good and which authors should be omitted, though, as that's a project I haven't tackled yet.

Clearly you have never read Steven Baxter's Xeelee sequence.

(that is not a recommendation for Xeelee in regards to this specific topic, although it is a recommendation for Xeelee in general)
