its that time of the year again.

we lay out ambitious goals that we have no real intentions of achieving

Big definable targets:

- Finish apartment (we are in but its no where near complete)
- Get the Driving Range open
- The majority of the working year be done on a 4 day week
- Build my Workshop

Generic Life styles :

- Get a bit fitter (as usual)
- Save some more money
- Keep learning German
- Write/ draw something on a regular basis (unlikely but we can hope)

Personal goals

- Run a 10k
- Build and sell a piece of furniture from scratch
- Avoid drawing from savings at all (pretty much wiped them out last year, that was driving range/apartment related in my defense)

My main aim is to get my novel edited and sent to a (or some) agents. I think it's quite sellable so I'm hoping I actually get some time to work on tweaking it...

Go plastic free in the bathroom and more plastic free in the kitchen. Cos you know, that will totally help with the coming climate apocalypse. Maybe delay it by a nanosecond or so. Doing my bit.

I don't really do resolutions. I do plans. There's mainly some stuff I need to get off my ass and learn, and then I want to make a trip to somewhere interesting happen. But it depends on a couple of things. Plans change.

Last year I ended up not making any, and it was... an alright year. Not particularly exciting, but nothing really bad, either.

I'll probably add to this when I think about it some more, but here's a starter:

Money/Financial- 2019 was actually kinda good with this. I got rid of my student loan, and the only other excessive debt is the money I borrowed from my parents for down payment on my flat. (not counting the mortgage itself, cuz that's just a fact of life). I didn't spend nearly as much on travel and books.... but I spent a ton on games, and also I built a new PC.

So basic goals for 2020:
-limit my spendings on personal entertainment (books and games) to under $250/month
-Maintain a balance above 10K by end of year, while increasing the money I'm paying back on the loan.
-I'm planning a vacation trip for September, and I want to have about 3-4 K set aside for that.

Health- towards the end of the year I REALLY slacked off on this, due to combination of work and dealing with the condo/tenants

Basic goal is:
-lose weight again, get back into the regular weight range of 81-83 kilos
-resume swimming twice a week
-exercise every morning
-get back to proper sleep patterns- go to bed no later than 1 AM on a weekday, and shut the computer down at 11:30 on a weekday

Leisure
-Stop buying so many games; play more of the games I own
-Read all the books I have at home and buy less books until I do
-improve my passing with the left foot and participate in meaningful offensive plays at least 3 times per game.

This feels like a repetition of last year:

Get back into shape. I was in such great shape back in 16-17, but I fell out of the routine. I need to get back into daily sessions with the rowing machine.

Learn Spanish - I've actually gotten pretty far, relatively speaking. Far far from being fluent obviously, years from that, but slowly improving.

Start hiking again - Laura and I went hiking a lot, spent the night in the woods, cooking over an open flame. In 2019 we almost didn't do any of that though, we were too 'busy'. So, this year will be better. I love hiking, and love the solitude we get in the woods and in the mountains.

The way things are looking, I'll be happy just to not be dead somewhere near the Iran-Iraq border by the end of the year.

Other than that I don't "do" resolutions as I accepted reality years ago. :p

I have started using shampoo bars instead of bottles. Like bars of soap but bars of shampoo. They come wrapped in paper, totally plastic free. I recommend you all convert now. Same with conditioner but if you are wary just try shampoo first.

Are they still as good?

The only resolution I made this year was to stop scrolling on my phone and start reading again when I’m in the bathroom. So far so good.

Reading Dresden > Being sad reading the news.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

They are. Especially for a gentleman's hair when I assume you aren't really that arsed. It's exactly the same as shampoo but you just rub the bar on your head first. You might have to try a few brands. I have settled on Ethique (terrible name). The main inconvenience is that if they get splashed a lot in the shower they wear down quicker but I got a little soap dish with a lid for mine and now it's all fine. Plus the smug feeling totally makes up for it.

Yo used to be against The Man. Now you are The Man.

You've gone all "Apple". :no

I guess you'll have to console yourself with your wads of filthy cash, golf range and private bar. :p

BTW:

"That's me all over Sombra!"
Oh, for want of a comma to clarify context ... :ermm:

Surely telling my boss I'm moving to a four day week is sticking it to the man.
