A quick look around I did not see a thread for Abercrombie's new book. Anyone else finish reading?

I just finished yesterday due to am having a massive cold that gave me fevers for most of the night.

It's good to finally be back in the main series story progression. The new cast is good, but nobody seems to have communicated seriously with their progeny about how bad the magicians are.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

If I hadn't read the side stuff would this book suffer for it?

From what I can tell this is a main continuity book, and as such is only really focused on the next gen of the characters from First Law.

Do you mean the short story collection, Sharp Ends? Best Served Cold, The Heroes, and Red Country are not side stuff.

They're 100% side stuff. However, the characters brought up in them are only side characters in this main series book. I do think they're quite good, especially Red Country, and would enrich the experience of the main series books.

Can't say I agree. I'm not too far into ALH yet, but I can tell that The Heroes bridges some gaps from TLAoK to ALH. Best Served Cold and Red Country probably do too, but not as prominently.
