I can count on one hand the books that have ended up in the 'best novel' category in the Hugo's over the years that I've actually read/wanted to read.

The Venn Diagram for what the WSFC think is "great" SFF and what I do, has barely any crossover.

I haven't read any of the novels this year, have been working on the TRP and succeeding. However, the comic, tv, and movie nominees are quite good.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

100% agreed.

The description for the Best Novel winner, The Calculating Stars, put me to sleep after the first sentence. 1950s space race alt-history? Not my cup of tea.

How do the Retro Awards work? Are they having contemporary people vote on the original nominees?
