Here in prequel, both seem to be more realistic whereas post ascencion Kell seems more off his rocker and Dancer loses his humanity a bit on their focus on whatever their end objectives are, The possession of Sorry in GotM feels especially out of character of the Dancer we see here.
Do you think godhood changed them? Or is it due to style of writing between SE and ICE?

I think the series makes it very clear godhood changed them, but also that they resist the changes in some respects.

Also GOTM is written with less planning than the rest of the series.
Personally I wouldn't make too many comparisons between Esslemont's prequel and the old books. The path to Ascension books have a more Young Adult feel to them and that includes the way the characters are written.
