A Walk In Shadow What can we do to help this get published

Ok, I just can't bear the thought that this is delayed indefinitely.

To be honest, I am not really pumped up about the Karsa series. Edgewalker interests me a lot more than Karsa and I have a great deal of love for the Malazan Mythology (especially how it unfolded in Fall of Light).

One of the reasons for the postponement was that the sales of the Kharkanas series was low.

Is there anything we can do to accelerate the release of "Walk In Shadow", such as Crowdfunding, special editions, pre-sales, campaigns. I don't know how the Author contracts works and therefore am not sure what is tenable.

Looking for concrete next steps.

If everyone is willing to contribute to a GoFundMe to finance my efforts, and it reaches say $1000, I am more than willing to DM Steven on Twitter to say "write the dang book, sir." Guaranteed.

I would certainly donate to a Crowdfund.

Would Doug Ford rather slinging durhang on the streets or scotch? I feel that unless his family's company was responsible for the labels on the scotch, he'd be more at home with the durhang.
Abnegation.

I agree, I am not really thrilled about reading a Karsa book. The toblakai just sound too "ugh stupid primitive wants to fight and fsck". I would be down to crowdsource the next Kharkhanas book.

If it was whiskey I might have considered it!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Erickson finish writing the book but holding off publishing because of poor numbers?

My understanding from his blog posts was that he had started it. No details on how far along but my sense was that it was not done.

Sales on FALL were low in striking contrast to ICE's DEADHOUSE LANDING released around the same time, which would, in general, have the same buyers.

....i said 'in general', people, no one needs to jump in to scream about how they only buy one author or the other....

Have there been any successful campaigns similar to this.

Dunno. SE isn't exactly a newb author offering chapter 1-3 on kickstarter to get some cash to finish the book. i'm speculating, but based on recent work, he could simply never write WALK, stick to the Karsa trilo and his sf works, and carry on as a published author no problems. Sure I (and others) want to read the end of the Kharkanas trilo, but we can't fault him if it won't pay the bills.

We can and we will. You cannot stop us! We're fans, dammit. Rationality and common sense are irrelevant. We need this. Think of the children! The horror, the horror. Oh the humanity. The road that is built on hope is more pleasant to the traveller than the road built in despair, even though they both lead to the same destination.

Pretty sure Karsa won't even appear in at least the first book of the... Karsa Trilogy. Which I find pretty hilarious and am now much more interested in it.

As to WiS, iirc, SE's publisher didn't even bother telling him that sales for the Kharkanas books so far were meh, he found out on his own and was pretty bummed about it. Also, from what little I know of author contracts, he should've been paid a sizeable advance and then whatever trickles in from the sales. Just goign by the fact that the publisher didn't seem to be too put out by the fact that the sales were kind of meh, there's was no pressure to earn a lot with the Kharkanas books at least for the publisher. And SE is publishing other books in the meantime as well, so who knows about his pressure to earn money.

That being said, also iirc, the original plan was to write the first Karsa book, then return to WiS and finish the Kharkanas trilogy, so I've been keeping my fingers crossed. I am not aware of any change to that plan, though I have not been following the whole thing since the Karsa book was announced, because meh Karsa. I have a sneaking, but VERY sneaking suspicion, that the Karsa books will not be what people expect them to be, which is what I also said of the Kharkanas trilogy before it was released and turned out to be right. You know, just going by the simple fact that SE had strongly insinuated that Karsa will not feature in at least the first Karsa book, if not even the second.

All that is to say that I am up for any shenanigans that will get WiS into my grubby, grasping dirty paws.

I waited with both Fod and FoL because I wanted to read all 3 books without interruption. I know more did the same. Bad move I guess... I want Walk in Shadow more than a new stupid Toblakai trilogy. Unless Ganoes is in it and kill thousands of toblakai in shadowdog form.

GRRM doesnt count, he has lost interest in his product. SE is still heavily invested in Kharkanas and must be brought to heel.

Maybe we should do this the old fashioned way and send a delegation consisting of abyss and worry.
That should do it. Abyss can distract while worry steals the manuscript. That should totally be worth $1500.
