To my knowledge, the show is a sequel to the comics and not the movie continuity -- probably wouldn't hurt as a general refresher though.

I think this movie aged extremely fucking well. I liked it better today then I did in theater or on my 2nd watch at home trying to understand it. Very interesting stuff going on in it.

Supplementary material from HBO. I assume (or hope, at least) a "File" is released around every episode.

Yep. The only significant deviation is the conclusion involving Dr Manhattan instead of the teleporting pisonic giant octovagina suicide bomb thingy.
I've always thought the comic ending was so silly that the movie was an improvement.

Agreed. I recognize a lot of the critiques, notably how the movie misses a lot of the irony from the comic, ie Roscharch becomes a 'good guy', the Comedian as a wholly 'bad guy' but it never bothered me because Moore's work was well open to interpretation even if Moore himself felt otherwise.
PUST: Go forth, Hounds of Life! Go forth and do my bidding!
CHASE: (quietly) I dunno pups... he seems to be bidding us to hurt a bunch of people.
MARSHALL: So? I mauled Mayor Humdinger's face and set him on fire that one time and he was totally fine the next week.
CHASE: Good point. (louder) OK pups, Paw Patrol is on a roll!
PUST: WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN???

In the comics, instead of a megabomb or whatever happens in the movie, Ozymandias actually causes a kaiju sized squid to destroy NYC. Needless to say (jk, it needs to be said) the squid is a scientific creation of Ozy (and Dr. Manhattan? I forget) that they only pretend is an alien/interdimensional being in order to unite all of humanity against it. I personally prefer that ending to the movie, in all its goofy comic book glory, but YMMV.

This squid rain on the show is a callback to that -- and in terms of the series, is a minor mystery as to why it's still happening, so you aren't totally lost.

I'm very lost. I never read the comic(book, whatever it was), but I watched the Movie.

Can anyone help explain how it jumps to what seems to be a series about race?

Beatsie Boys at the end..

It's a good series, I'm still lost.

Why are the bad guys wearing Rorschach masks? Thought he was a good guy.

Rorschach was definitely not a good guy.
