Seguleh First

By "he showed no deference", I understand that he doesn't show the respect the high-ranked Seguleh expect from their inferiors (and then they attacked him).

does demanding respect from a stranger in your home really warrant eternal suffering?
however this discussion has definetly made me rethink this whole section
i dunno, i guess when i read envys account i got the feeling rake was just bored and felt like killing, but upon the reread it seems more like he was just exploring. however i still think he was too harsh, could have easily used a mundane sword and simply killed the attackers.
but then again, i guess when you attack anomander rake your life becomes forfeit

Few examples. Talking to Picker at the end of the battle. Becoming friends with Whiskeyjack. It is not us that humanising Rake, he does it to himself.
And that is why the death of Whiskeyjack is so annoying... to see that friendship develop would have been a really nice part of the series...

Of course we're assuming Rake actually killed them....can't remember if it specifically said that. :Erm:
Tool didn't kill either of the two he faced. Just beating them senseless seems to have done the trick.

depends on whether he can beat the 4th, me thinks - because he clearkly lost against the 3rd but has not yet fought against the 4th iirc - so it's up in the air at the moment...

It wouldn't surprise me... "Kruppe magnanimously defeated many seguleh until they graciously handed over the title to his good self, accepting defeat graciously and then hurrying to provide a feast for their new champion. Oh! My friends what a glorious feast that was."

Kruppe seems so busy he almost looks like he's doing nothing.
I gotta say tho this debate on dassem being the first or second is strangely convenient. If dassem, who answers to kallenved(used to) is the first or ever becomes the 1st, the first must be worth a battle with dassem, then the malazans get a new specialised worrier race as their auxillary infantry.
imagine three kids enter a city that needs to be conquered and three kids walk out with blood on their hands.
effective

you gotta be kidding, if daseem is the 1st, then he will have the greatest non magical army that ever exists... an army of seguleh can wipe out anyone else,as long as no magic is used of course...
damm....

I don't think Dassem is the first - there are fighters who could (maybe) have beaten him - Whiskeyjack for one...

It's not just that Whiskeyjack was amazing (though of course he was
) I seem to remember in MOI someone said something about they used to spar and that Whiskeyjack could counter attack with such ferocity as to drive Dassem back...
I shall pop into the combat place and see what I can do - though you should know that I am an Anomander Rake man firstly!
