Leaping kick is good for punishing anyone with an annoying sweep! I think they nerfed it along with high monk with the first update as it was a bit OP.
I've got loads of mercury from somewhere, not sure where though!

Bloody Hell.
Took me about 4 hours to kill the Demon.
I figured out the fight pretty early on- it's really anti-intuitive, but conceptually simple once you get it.
but getting through all 3 phases just required real precision because one wrong move and he could knock me down or stunlock me and then it's GG.
All right, all that's left now is the final boss himself.

Nice one. It's focus that's required, isn't it. I just couldn't get it when I was remotely tired, had to play one morning when I got a moment to nail it.
Satisfying though, kinda sad that he thanks you for releasing him.
Good luck with Isshin! You'll get him quicker than me I'm sure, but if you want to know what I did just ask.

Might save him for tomorrow. The demon got me 15 k EXP, so I need to grind out another skill point.
I'm trying to max out all the Lazulites in a single NG+ run, so I need to pick an upgrade for either the axe or the flame barrel.... I'll probably go with the flame barrel, and see how Isshin likes holy fire...

I've got enough lazulite to get most of the upgrades, not sure you can get enough for all on first playthrough though?
I think the holy fire only works on spirits but not certain. When combined with Living Force, it's supposed to do massive damage, along with the Axe.

1 playthrough gets you 6. you need 10 upgrade all 4 weapons. (2 from killing the demon, 2 can be bought for scales, 1 is reward for killing the Carp, and 1 is dropped by the ghost warrior in the Palace)
The last boss is technically a summoned spirit, so I feel like it should be useful. remains to be seen though.

Yeah I've got the 6.
Ohh, I want to play some more now...

Genichiro seems to be put there specifically to throw off my concentration. I can almost never kill him without losing a resurrect because of his stupid Mortal sword or, one of his unblockable combo moves.
Found a way to rush phase 1. unsurprisingly, it involves my beloved Sabimaru. Once I bait him into a thrust and use a Mikiri, I counterattack with a Sabimaru combo and finish with a sword follow-up. If I manage to block his next attack, he reverts to another thrust, allowing me to repeat the process. Second combo poisons him, and a third Mikiri brings his posture to near critical.
Phase 2, however, is proving tricky. can't get the Mikiri timing right for those thrusts.
Only had an hour or so tonight to mess with this, finally. Hopefully I could give it some time on the weekend. Next few weeks are gonna be real busy at work, so doubt I'll have much playing time at home.

Do you mean phase 1 on Isshin?
I used Floating Passage for him. Almost every attack he does, I'd run to my right, and hit him in the side with it. There's one where he rushes in really fast which would nearly always get me; but if you keep locked on and moving you can punish him back for that too.

About 2 hours played yesterday.
I saw Phase 3 once. And died promptly.
Unfortunately, most of the time was spent dying to Genichiro. I tend to become impatient after getting killed by phase 2 Isshin, and just try to brute-force my way back there. And genichiro's got just enough counter-moves to punish me for that.
I got Phase 1 down now. Phase 2 just need to figure out a few more things, but got the parry pattern down in general.
Now I've got a late game, a wedding and another game on Sun (with me needing to do a bunch of work on the weekend whenever I can squeeze it in). So I'm likely to forget how I got here by the time I next get to try this.
Need to get through the next 2 weeks. Then I should have some more free time again.

Divine confetti and the sugar that boosts posture are good for speeding things up.
I miss playing but I'm stuck into Botw whenever I get any free time at the moment. (Although after Sekiro it feels like Link is wearing lead boots the whole time. He's slow af and he can't jump for shit!)

Yeah, I keep meaning to use the confetti, but never have the time, lol.
EDIT: confetti sucks, because it obscures his movements, so it actually makes it more difficult to parry, lol
Been getting to Phase 2 pretty reliably and even getting past that, occasionally. But the lighting strikes still get me (for now). Unfortunately, could only keep my focus for so long, before it started slipping again.

Had a decent run last night in the 45 min I managed to eke out to play. Got to phase 3 fairly reliably.
Now I feel I need to go back to the Palace and practice the lightning catch and release on the thunder dogs.

I didn't use the lightning return - I tried and I jumped, but he was always too far away when he did it. I took him out from up close; I think he only does it when you're mid range.
I put Dark Souls on today as my son wanted to look at it. I started from the beginning, and tried to parry the first spear guys. It worked a treat! Batted their spears and left them open for a death blow. Ive played through DS a lot of times, but never utilised this effectively before Sekiro.

Nailed him. Lightning return actually makes Phase 3 trivial, once you develop the muscle memory for it. Each one takes of a solid chunk of his vitality, and you can get at least 3 hits in while he's stunned
Phase 2 is arguably the hardest, cuz he doesn't do that many thrusts, meaning I needed to build up his posture via deflects mostly- unless he tries to do the air sweep, when I can just jump over him and get a few free hits in.

I had the default "Immortality severed". Like I mentioned, I forgot to get cooked rice from Kuro...
Which is why I wanna do another run to get Purification or Dragon's return ending.
Also, I still need to bring the doctor a test subject.

I decided against that, it's obvious what he does to them! I got that other guy his white pin wheel and used the fan to transport him off to the area the screen monkeys are found.
I missed fighting Owl at Hirata, as well as old Isshin and Emma so will pick it up again soon.

yeah, but the guy that follows you to Mibu Doesn't give you anything particularly valuable. He can be a test subject.

Needed some more...
Started NG, have had some fun playing through early stages with all the sweet moves I've accumulated. Knocked out chained ogre and the general 1st try - after those end game bosses where deflecting is key, these guys are a walk over but it's really fun to fight them toe to toe and beat them by letting them ruin their own posture.
Also fun fighting things a second time without having to learn their moves - just wading in and letting fly.
