I think Paran knew who he was targeting and that matters more than the wording he used :D

I agree, its not like he was reciting an incantation! Besides Paran was a Bridgeburner himself!

I suppose that all the bridgeburners ascend, because the spiritwalker's song is about all the BB - those Fiddler knew; Paran's blessing comes on top of that, whether he directed it at some or all of them.

yes, let me quote:

"whiskeyjack, for all that you taught me, I thank you. Bridgeburners, I wish I could have done better by you. Especially at the end. At the very least I could have died with you. All right, it's probably too late. But I bless you, one and all."

they are blessed. ONE AND ALL. they're all blessed!!!! blessedblessedblessed
!!!!! forhoodsake!!!! blessed, one and all. dead or alive, sapper or mage, young or old, veteran or rookie!!!!! each and every frickin one of 'em. blessed. for all time!!!!! forever blessed. yes, blessed. BY PARAN. he blessed them. one and all. no qualification, no specifics. just blessed. they're blessed.

phew. ok...i'm ok.

errm - could the bb's themselves have a says in whether they "want" to ascend or not? I mean at least they could decide to do... nothing with their ascendancy or stubbornly knock on hood#s door to be let in...... just a guess

i think one needs a certain focus to ascend - a goal he/she wants to achieve and ascension then is part of it... one cannot just ascend by stumbling through the world and having a lot of experiences; it takes something more --> a focus, the will or whatever...
:D
if i'm correct then it follows that one can hover on the brink of ascension (like gesler for example) without making the last step, i mean without "wanting" it...

Not sure about that... if Quick Ben is right at the end of MoI (not a spoiler - it's in there - read it last night) it seems that the Bridgeburners have ascended without any particular will to do so... although the Spiritwalkers song may have helped, along with a pinch of Paran blessing.
Paran too, seems on his way there - reluctantly..

Yes but doesn't being master of the deck mean you're an ascended anyway? I know there's no clues to that anywhere, but it would make good sense wouldn't it?

And even if it doesn't, he blessed all the bridgeburners anyway, one of which is himself. Does that mean he ascends twice? I must add that I'm not really serious about this, but that I'm still questioning the whole bridgeburners-all-ascending line of discussion.

I mean, what does it all mean? Will there be an ascended army of bridgeburners working for a God who's already there? (shadow?). Or will they all just be milling around in a field in another realm wondering what to do? A new house created? Or is this blessing-ascension a bit less conventional/meaningful than a normal ascension?

I just don't see how it could work.

Just don't read the glossary... I did that with HOC and it somewhat confused me the whole way through until the end...
