Hey all.

I have 1 credit left and then I'll be discontinuing my Audible account. I am looking for a really good standalone novel for my journeys to and from work. I currently have The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and another book by the same author called The Sudden Appearance of Hope.

Just looking for a good one to spend my last credit on. Maybe an epic sci-fi? I dunno, suggestions?

Oh, I should add my journey generally takes 45 mins each way so I'm hoping for something that's over 12 hours long to keep me entertained for a while.

Yeah I've got most of those books and they all seem to be series. I'll keep browsing recco threads of days gone by and see what I can find and then see if they have an earbook version.

I liked the Peter Clines audiobooks for my commute. The Fold , 14, and Paradox Bound. None were very long but I thought they were well done.

Also, audible (at least in the U.S.) has a ton of lecture series. I've picked up several of those when trying to figure out what to buy.

I liked Paradox Bound and The Fold best. Paradox Bound is really tied into America, which I loved, but not sure how well that part translates out of country (for some characters from folklore, etc). It would still be a fun time travel book either way.

I haven’t read Paradox Bound but I liked 14 way more than The Fold, which was still pretty good. 14 was like crack.

...but, consider Clive Barker’s IMAJICA if you haven’t read it.Three reasons: great epic fantasy book, utterly standalone; excellent narrator; and it’s 37 hours, so value for 1 credit is stupid good.

Reviving this thread again because my brother's got me a years worth of Audible credits for my birthday - I'm going to bed recommendations again please!

Am up for anything really but want something that's going to last for a while. Massive a decent length series? I'd prefer something I haven't read before and one that is complete so I'm not waiting around for the next one. E.g. my brother recommended The Name of the Wild by Rothfuss but AFAIK that's part of an unfinished series and he's nearly as bad as GRRM?

I read and enjoyed Mistborn are the other Sanderson series any good?

Basically longer audio books are better (15 hours is fine but over 20 is preferable) and because I have 12 credits I can get stuck into something longer than a trilogy if there is anything good to do so with.

Considering getting Night's Dawn if the audiobook is good cos I love that series (I know I said I wanted something I've not read but I quite fancy that one tbf...)

Sanderson's series consistently get two of the bestest narrators in the business, and are utterly worthwhile. Also, at least with Stormlight, you get like 30hrs+ for your one credit which is like three books for most other authors.

Choice of narrator can make a huge difference to earbooks, so it's nice that audible permits returns if you hate.

I really enjoyed VE Schwab's DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC trilo. Excellent narrator.
Jemisin's BROKEN EARTH trilo is exceptional tho i think you read that.

I'm listening to Broken Earth right now it's phenomenal and Robin Miles is an outstanding narrator.
