That's actually a strong argument against letting him have it gnaw in my opinion.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

It's a shame you guys didn't pick the Arborec and Saar. Letani Warriors combined with Chaos Mapping looks like a whole lot of fun

I saw Nico's name pop up reading the thread when I was posting about the command token mix up, so he has been around.

Letani Warriors are upgraded GFs that also have production 2. Meaning if you have 10 of them in a system you have in theory the ability to build 20 units whenever you active the system. Chaos Mapping grants you, amongst other things, the ability to produce 1 unit in any system you have production capabilities at the start of your turn. Meaning you can produce a unit at the start of every turn in any system you have a GF.
It would be ridiculous

That does seem powerful but there must be drawbacks too

I'm really interested to play as the Saar with their movable space docks and no home system as such, but it also looks like it would be a difficult race to play well.

I just looked at a Reddit thread where they compiled results from 500 games. Hacan, Jol-Nar, and Sol were the most successful, while only the Yin did worse than the Saar (and those are the two I'd most want to play ). Nekro was also surprisingly close to the bottom.
Edit: Whoops, I read that table completely wrong. That was percentage of games played. So actually means Saar and Yin were the least popular to play.

Sardakk had the worst win percentage, at 10%. Jol-Nar the best at 29%.

Yeah, the Yin was my other option and I really wanted to try them out too.
Nekro struggle for two reasons I think: First and foremost, you are entirely dependent on the tech of those around you. What would have happened if I hadn't been able to snag Cruiser II from Nico in the first political phase for instance? Or if you hadn't gone for the GF upgrade.
Secondly, not being able to participate and vote in the political phase is a huge disadvantage.

True. You just seem so insidious (in a good way!) that it's hard not to see Nekro as among the strongest, but being placed adjacent to Spec Ops II was a great boon for you.
Studying their table a bit more, Sardakk may have suffered from the quality of player - only two advanced players chose to play as Sardakk in their stats.

The Letnev and Yssaril were the most popular for their advanced players.
Edit: Ugh, again reading that slightly wrong. The abbreviations don't help. That's the number of advanced players who won. So with Sardakk, only two advanced players won with them (and four beginners), while 14 and 12 advanced players won with Letnev and Yssaril respectively.

Huh, the Winnu were actually the least popular (played by 2% of players and featuring in 10% of games), but had the second-best win percentage at 28%.

I had option of Letnev, but favoured the movement of the Ghosts.

With a fleet pool of 3, the Letnev can have 5 non-fighter ships in a system which seems pretty cool.

Ghosts were basically in the middle for everything, popularity, win percentage, likelihood to win - the most grey of choices

But so much fun to play! The racial techs are really cool. The speed boost is really cool, and the flagship is amazingly fun to use! attack the flagship, and pds from the home system gets to join in
