I don't think so. Gareth Edwards has probably made the film in a way that is in his style; and maybe the tone or something has just tipped it over the line of what Disney will put its name on.

Judging from the trailer alone it looks like it's stepped away from the Star Wars space opera type film into more of a war story; it's possible that they want to kick it back into more familiar territory after the success of the very nostalgia heavy ep7. Which would be a shame - I'd love some more specific details about what they want to change.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

2 separate cuts on the DVD release (director's/original vs theatrical) would be cool.
"Fortune favors the bold, though statistics favor the cautious." - Indomitable Courteous (Icy) Fist, The Palace Job - Patrick Weekes

"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys

"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesn’t work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker

Now two updates - one saying it was too dark and needs more of a 'fun' tone; and another saying there are no big changes, the reshoot is of certain scenes featuring a familiar character.

I bet it's the former.

Reshoots are pretty normal these days for any films. But I'll wager the truth lies in the middle...as Gareth Edwards is the KING of visuals...but he's hit and miss for delivery depending on the scene. So I can imagine they want him to change a few things, and the rest if just normal reshoots for things that didn't work in editing.

Holy crap! Was there anything in that video that wasn't practical effects? (I don't think there was!)

May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

In fairness, though, that's because they hadn't done the work on the big ol' bluescreen they showed at one point.

Felicity Jones is not an actual person. She is 100% CGI.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Things I loved about it:

- Forest Whitaker (his line delivery is amazing! "The world is come undone...Imperial flags reign across the galaxy...")
- Jyn & Cass in the cockpit "Good." "Good."
- Donnie Yen. DONNIE FUCKING YEN. Donnie yen as a student of the force and a man aping the tenets of the Jedi. DONNIE YEN.
- Sassy robot!
- Bazooka/Rocket Launcher VS AT-AT's fucking JAW!
- Limping, pistol-brandishing Jyn VS tie fighter on platform
- The wide shots are fucking GORGEOUS.
- The score. The clever rearrangement of more than one existing, iconic piece of Star Wars music is nothing short of stunning here.
- I agree with Worry, the grunts-eye view is excellent. (We have never been ground troops much in live action Star Wars as audiences....a LITTLE bit in the prequels...but mostly only in the animated shows)
- Vader
- Lastly, there is a blend here of the prequels and the OT that I find so charming. You can feel/see hints of the old prequel era age here (not especially because of characters like Forest's who bridge that gap as a survivor), but it's overlaid with the OT as a pastiche, if that makes sense?

Anyways. They didn't even need this trailer. I was already there with bells on....but damned if this wasn't a fantastic trailer!

Oh and for those who wonder: This is who Forest Whitaker is playing.

Saw Gerrera.
