It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that I read about the film struggling. Something about it being done for a long time but the people in charge not being happy with the results, or something that like that. Rumors.

And here it is. There was speculation that they'd just release it with no fanfare but that doesn't sound like a good thing. Cloverfield Lane at least had a trailer shortly before getting released. This just seems like a straight to DVD release given an extra push.

It's not much of a concept to begin with. Just a very very loose thing JJ can use to link movies that otherwise would have had no connection as a thin audience grab.

Rumour runs that 10 CLoverfield Lane was never supposed to even be a 'Cloverfield' flic until someone had the bright idea at the last minute and decided to add a couple of scenes at the even laster minute to make a minor almost sort of connection to the 2008 monster film.

This looks about as connected.

Yeah. Which would be okay if they put more effort into connecting them.

I'm watching it now as well. So far it seems like an expensive B-film but it has a lot of well known actors.

Every time these sci-fi films pull the "We're running out of energy" card my eyes roll around in my head so hard I fear I am getting eye strain.

Finished it earlier.

Not a great film. Not terrible. Just sort of a film. Definitely not something worth putting in a theater.

I fail to see why this film even exists. The plot has been done a dozen times by various Sci-fi shows and movies. It doesn't do anything new or special. In terms of connecting it to the first Cloverfield it seems pointless. In fact it actually lessens the mythos surrounding the first cloverfield.

Still, I was mildly entertained.

Besides giving the Cloverfield event an origin story I don't see why they'd connect this film to Cloverfield. I feel like the monster's origin should be a mystery.

The fact that the monster just popped up because somebody turned on a particle accelerator seems boring and mundane.

I wanted something far more eldritch

Guys the clover-verse was always planned to be a 10 movie arc

You can basically bring in Super 8 and Lost into this universe now.

I enjoyed it for what it is!!

I think people here aren’t totally enamored with clovererse as their are 4 alternative realities running < in this movie>. As they bounce around they jumped between the four main ones is my belief as there was tons of subtle stuff going on in the background.

I love the idea of a fractal storyline reality that JJ Abrams is trying to build. So as much as this movie was seemingly the same... it was brilliant if you view this all as prologue...

Universe B ) 10 Cloverfield Lane <Aliens>

Universe C) Cloverfield 3 Alt- War World

Universe D) Cloverfield 3 Legacy World <Mama--> Clovie>

Another line of thought for me was they are running this experiment how many times until it actually succeeded, if we go by fringe (the show) logic they get a world that is close to their own, but not. That makes sense...Now if we look at this way how many times did it succeed/fail before this reality occurred too.

Could this very idea of creating a machine that produces unlimited energy caused Interstellar Race of Aliens to just annihilate us messing around with technology that we didn't really understand the true ramifications. As they ran it 100's of times messing around with reality. So what my theory is the paradox is that in each one of those test's they had a success/failure. Each one of those brought different realities to interact with each other. Each one fractured and mess with reality in a multitude of realities a it's effects of messing with this power the waves...ripped through time itself.


This movie is quite fun to think about...

No they don’t ! Mark Stambler is pretty large connection and he’s being interviewed in 3 remember ? He’s the interviewee. The case files in one are the Cloverfield files.

Now you might be like ok Mark stambler ! Who is Marks brother , but ..Howard Stambler in 10 Cloverfield..then you connect the dots.

That said, as desperation plays went, it seemed to have worked.

I don't really care for the idea that Netflix' original content model is going to move towards sweeping up about-to-fail movies and clever marketing, rather than, oh, I dunno, making and acquiring good movies.
