We usually have one of these threads every new year.

http://www.pcgamer.com/new-games-2018/

As always, some of these are PC exclusive but many will be coming out on PS, Switch or Xbox.

So many strange new games on these lists. I've been furiously adding them to my already bloated wish list.

Nice, Kingdom Come Deliverance out in a month.

I really hope it's worth the wait.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah, I'm really curious about that one as well. I catch the occasional video once in a while and I think it might be a dark horse for a GOTY contender in 2018. If all that attention to detail and character work pays off it will be something very special.

I've been keeping an eye on Kingdom Come: Deliverance for ages - it looks very promising indeed.

Others that I'm watching closely:

Bard's Tale IV
Pillars of Eternity II
Phoenix Point (I've already paid for this so it had better be good!)
Griftlands (I'm a big fan of Klei's previous output, so high hopes)
Cyberpunk 2077 (of course!)

One that wasn't mentioned is Pathway, from Robotality (who made Halfway, which I quite enjoyed). It looks a bit Indiana Jones-y, adventure and exploration with turn-based combat. It was supposed to be released in 2017 but there's no firm date as yet, and their blog has been quiet for ages, but they're still tweeting new screenshots from it so I guess it'll turn up sooner or later.

Quite a disappointing list so far actually. Lots of Indies and such but I still prefer to focus most of my attention on the AAA games.

They seem to have been spending years on the details. A bit disappointed they've gone with the old 'your family is killed so now you can go adventuring' story, but being able to walk into such a well researched medieval environment should compensate. A lot will hinge on those combat mechanics - almost battle sim.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I wonder how much they needed to rework Anthem to avoid being caught up in the whole loot box debacle.

A 2018 game I'm likely to insta-buy: if there's going to be a new expansion for Age of Kings HD, I'll be all over that.

2018 game I'm likely to buy at some point in 2018- Darksiders III, unless it turns out to be a total flop.

Games I want to hear more on from that list:

-Biomutant
-Code Vein
-Extinction
-Vampyr
-I'm a backer for Deliverance so I'll probably check it out.
-There's a new Pillars of Eternity? that reminds me, I still need to play the expansion... and then get back to Numenera....

-Cyberpunk 2077 & Beyond Good & Evil 2: YEAH RIGHT! also, please keep your "online/social elements" out of my single-player games, kthanxbai
-Also, it would be cool to see the new Cyanide games (Werewolf: the Apocalypse & the Call of Cthulhu), but I doubt they'll be out next year.

-If Psychonauts 2 comes out, I may actually finally play the original for the first time

- A few of the strategy games look interesting, but I have such an enormous backlog, those definitely won't be a priority.

I didn't much care for Pillars of Eternity, but I really enjoyed Numenera.

Cyberpunk 2077 is not coming out in 2018 from what I've heard. And neither is Psychonauts. Vampyr though, that looks interesting I think.

I've always wanted to play Planescape Torment because of the praise the writing still gets to this day. However, unless a remaster was made, I cannot imagine playing a game that looks so antiquated.

Come to think of it, maybe I should look up a lets play of the game.

The recent enhanced edition of Planescape Torment is lovely.

A lets play of Planescape Torment, of any of the old isometric rpgs really, would surely be a miserable failure.

One thing I missed in that list:

Spiders, the "we-make-janky-but-original-RPGs" people are making a new one, "Greedfall" , this one about some kind of colonizers vs magical native shamans.

Their entire RPG catalogue is STILL on my "to play" list, but I will probably buy this, because I absolutely adore the fact that they keep trying to tell RPG stories in a variety of different settings.

It's February, and I (finally) realize there's quite a few potentially amazing games coming out this year. Especially of "action-adventure-kill-big-monsters" variety.

Aside of the obvious Monster Hunter World that'll be hitting PC in the fall, there are also:

Extinction

Darksiders III

Praey for the Gods

And Biomutant will probably have big things to kill, too.

There is also Pillars of Eternity II, Vampyr, possibly that new Spiders game GreedFall....

Given this list (plus my impressive backlog), I'm really not bothered by absence of anything new and innovative from the "Major" AAA publishers.

I need iPad game suggestions. I'm happy to pay if they are good but it must be once and done. No micro transactions till death. Happy yo play for free too. Hate all games that say pay or grind.

Loved the room series
Sky force unleashed
Xcom

Robotality have crawled out of the woodwork, after being quiet for ages, and released a trailer for Pathway. Due some time this year . . .

I love Pathways looks but the actual gameplay looks shallow and/or weird. That combat looks boring as hell. But dat pixel art though.

I don't think the trailer even mentions that the combat is turn-based, which doesn't help. I quite liked the turn-based combat in their previous game, Halfway. It wasn't XCOM/Divinity Original Sin 2 standard but it was good fun and quite challenging, so I'm hopeful for Pathway.
