Oh man, they're about to reach one of the most upsetting scenes in the whole series.

Yeah, I hate it when Tehol loses his blanket.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Just an update, I'm at 90% and I'm so glad I continued. I have been reading at every opportunity I get and I'm currently at:

Spoiler

The book is really finishing strong, so glad I continued!

The last 10% broke me.

I think the main lesson here is to realise that with all of Erikson's books the punch is in the finale. You can argue that the books might have benefited from a bit of editing or that there are parts that might seem to exist more because SE thinks they are cool than that they serve the plot. However, what always stands out is that the overall book never fails to deliver and that every bit of content is there deliberately and with forethought.

Yep. Just finished my 4th read and im not sure it gets any better. Like your on the tracks and you know the trains coming, but there's nothing you can do.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

You're 7 books into the series, how can you possibly think of quitting? :)

I quit after Dust of Dreams - 9 books in. For me, the writing got so oppressive and self-indulgent that it was unbearable. Dust of Dreams was literally the worst book I've ever read, whereas I'd put Deadhouse Gates in my top 10. The quality of SE's writing, IMO, declined remarkably after Midnight Tides. For the most part, I found the Bonehunters, Reaper's Gale and Toll the Hounds very tedious reads, aside from a few high points and convergences where things actually happen. Each of these books is filled with literally hundreds of pages of pointless filler and exposition and few of the characters are deep or charming enough to carry you through it.

We know, Abberon, we know.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
