How dare you. Fins aren't even Scandinavian. Mind you I've never met a person from Finland, so maybe there is truth to this.

Supposedly I was in Finland once for a Conference, but my memory is a little hazy. I always assumed it was the Kosenkorva, but maybe something more malicious was at work.

I think that article has it backwards. Only Finland exists on this ocean world. The rest of us float down here.

I think that it explains that all of the crazies have come from Reddit, 4chan, The donald, This moron. Reddit is to blame for the current state of affairs.

Apt, have you ever heard someone actually use the word "Fennoscandia" or is that a myth, as well?

Never heard of it but considering Denmark seems to be exempt from this group there may be a reason for that.

Typically when Finland gets mentioned is when speaking of "The Nordic countries" or just "The North". The North consists of Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland as well as the Danish sovereign territories Greenland and The Faroe Islands along with the Finish sovereign territory The Åland islands (I actually thought they were a Swedish territory).

Some times the Baltic area gets thrown in as well but I think that's mainly when Russia is stirring.

Thing thing about Finland is that while they have history with Norway and Sweden they are distinctly "un-scandinavian" in terms of their language and culture, they share much more common ancestry with Russia and the Baltic countries.

Three people from Denmark, Norway and Sweden could have a somewhat coherent exchange of words and understand a lot of what one another is saying. Finnish on the other hand is just gibberish.

It is also just gibberish when compared to Russian, though. The language exists in complete isolation. Same with Hungarian. No Germanic or Slav or Latin or Celtic roots in sight. Just plain weird.

I believe Estonian also belongs to the finno-ugric language group.

I've met multiple people who claimed to be from Finland. There's also that vodka, Finlandia. If the country does not exist, then where do our liquor stores import it from?

Perhaps like the Magyars the finnish are a tribe of central Asian who settled that area 1000s of years ago during one of the great migrations.

In fact both of the languages are related.

I've been to Finland for work. I never saw daylight and I got drunk in the tallest building in Helsinki which I think was about 4 storeys high. There was a lot of booze involved, I could have my facts very wrong.

You could have been in a 4 story building getting drunk and calling it Finland?

Sorry, the flat Earth theory tells me no countries can exist that far north. They'd fall off the edge of the world.

Nice try people!

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
