Hey there, I started reading Gardens of the moon Yesterday and I'm currently at chapter 7. However there is one part about the timeline that really confusee me:
Prolog:1154. Great.
Chapter 1 takes place in 1161: alright no problem
Chapter 2 is 2 years later 1163 and we stay in this year until the end of chapter 4
Chapter 5 now takes place in 907
Chapter 6 has no new information about the time so it should also take place in 907, or at least that's what I thought. However they reference the battle of pale and especially moon's spawn involvement so it has to take place in 1163.
Now I am a bit confused but my understanding is that obly Kruppes initial scene takes place in 907 and the rest of chapter 5/6 are back in 1163 is that corect?

No, that's "907th year of the third millennium" -- the point being, it's a different calendar than Burn's Sleep. Welcome to Darujhistan!
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

What worry said. The Malazan Empire and Darujhistan use different calendars/reference points for counting the years. The empire uses Burn's Sleep as well as the years since the empire's founding, while Darujhistan uses their Millenia thing. Same idea applies as with our western 2017 being the year 2561 in the Buddhist calendar and 1438 or something in the Islamic calendar.
Puck was not birthed, she was cleaved from a lava flow and shaped by a fierce god's hands. - [worry]

The timeline is not important.
That specifically refers to timeline inconsistencies though. Which this is not. Just two different calendar systems.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Yeah, I realized that after. But by then it was too late.
It was to late....
It was to late....
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Imagine the series is a set of written histories, gathered together from different sources, written at different times, some during or soon after events, and some long after. Different points of view, different recollections, using different calendars.
Compiled into Book of the Fallen, along with poems and quotes to give an additional perspective.
An accurate timeline isn't important. The dates included just add to the impression of reading a collected history.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
