I second this. If it HAS to be from the romance section, just sort their reviews by grade and pick one that sounds the least cringy to you. Their reviews are usually pretty spot on. I mean, I don't even ever touch romance, but I love reading their F and worse reviews.

Fun fact, I once sent my D&D GM one of those for the lulz, because it was some stupig dragon/prince romance nonsense and that turned out to also be our next ingame plot, whoops.

I'm completely blanking on the name, but I was once given by my parents' friends who have a vast SFF library a romance book of some sort. It was about a Celtic (I think Welsh) noble and his lady love who was set up by her jealous mother- or sister-in-law to be abducted by bandits and taken to the other side of Britain, etc. And in the end there's a mention of the whole thing being a legend for modern-day. and some very light fantasy elements woven in.

Anyways, there was little cringe, and I think that passes for a romance book. But I have 0 recollection of what the name was.

Eh, I don't really care about films. Books are far easier to get through for me.

I'm going to add my voice to those calling for Zafon. Shadow of the Wind is excellent, and it's a good time to get into the series since the fourth and final book is set to be translated and released next year. I've recommended it to several friends at this point (with vastly varying tastes) and I've never had someone put it aside.

Now I want to reread them too, damnit.

All Nicholas Sparks's books qualify (I think. Again I have only seen the movies and "The Notebook" is a good movie)

Certain parts of "Parades End" might qualify as romance. I didn't read the books but saw the TV series.

Also, maybe the Bronte sisters if you haven't read them.

Regarding Bronte, I have read and enjoyed Wuthering Heights, but it was less romance and more where how romance can turn into tragedy.

Regarding Bronte, I have read and enjoyed Wuthering Heights, but it was less romance and more where how romance can turn into tragedy.

All romance ends in disappointment or tragedy.
