I wouldn't actually say CINDER is a fair competitor, beyond the basics of steampunk. It's far more fantasy with steampunk elements, wide cast, bigger scope. SENLIN is sf, single pov, much narrower story.

Her whole arc was great for the highs and lows! Funny and heartbreaking by turns.

GUYS, I'm exactly where Whisperzzzz was on May 24th, 2017 - 55 pages into Arm of the Sphinx.

I loved Senlin and am loving Sphinx. His writing just pulls me in and all the fuss about 'excitement' couldn't mean less to me. It's an elegant tale in a unique environment. I enjoy that there is a lot going on beneath the surface of the tower, and encourage anyone who is up to the parlour and kinda confused/irritated by this Ringdom to keep going. It serves its purpose. I also like Senlin just as he is. He's like Sansa Stark - everyone doesn't like 'em because they are 'soooo naive' but then the jokes on them because it's just the slowest of burns to arc, and slow burns are often the best.
Author of Purge of Ashes.

Someone on reddit took the first book and rebound it gorgeously in leather and called it by The Everyman's Guide to the Tower of Babel. And if that's not enough, Bancroft chimed in and asked where to send a bookplate for it.

Just wonderful stuff.

I'm pretty sure he's finished a first draft, and The Fall of Babel is expected sometime in 2021.
