Family is different, generally, and this particular family member was an abuser on top of that. Sam's issues with Randyll are among the most deeply ingrained things in his psychology. That Sam took the sword and escaped w/ Gilly & son is actually fairly brave and a sign of the progress you spoke of, but it's not like Sam has overcome a lifetime of abuse in the few years of his Night's Watch service.

With all the cheeky reveals yesterday during the Super Bowl I'm bummed they didn't tease something for the next season of GoT. I mean, I get it, the next season is over a year away and all, but come on, give us something. Missed opportunity on their part. Anyone else bummed?

The whole thing had me like:

Also, see what I did there? Clever eh? Posted Image

Sounds exciting but he's right that I don't care about any of those things.

I'm looking forward to seeing the final battles that one assumes ends the fight for Westeros, one way or another.

However, cool battle scenes are not what made me get into the show. I hope they worked on their manuscripts for the final season, because there was a lot of sloppy writing in the last one.

Agree. But I think when they do the epic battle episodes, its really now one of the only ways the show shines and something for them to hang their hats on. It's doubtful that will change too much as they wrap up the last season. Maybe they've heard some of the rumblings from the fans though and will try and pivot to address some of those issues?

55 nights? I don't think that this equals 55 days of filming, but they filmed the Battle of Bastards in 21 days or something like that. I would like to see the result, but with only six episodes left it gives me also an Battle of the Five Armies vibe for this season. Too much battle and not enough plot. Hope I'm wrong and they improve the writing for the finale.

I have just enough experience in the industry to appreciate the fuck out of the sheer amount of work that goes into some of those scenes... it's not all CGI by a dude sitting at a computer.

And i really really like this show.

So yeah, this does something for me.

That would be my concern too. One Battle of Five Armies was enough for one lifetime.

Still, I like the touch of the message - and I'll be interested to see the end result!

The man loves his Tolkien, and the books were always heading that way, so it makes sense. I think it'll be closer to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields than Five Armies though, in execution. The show has pretty sterling track record with the big battles, it's the close quarters stuff they inexplicably screw up more often (Ramsey vs. Yara, the death of Selmy).
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Giving Season 7 a re-watch - I'm a devil for getting caught up in "Ooo, new Thrones!" and don't really take it all in on first watch.

Episode one, having such a giggle at Sansa's "Oh ffs you moron" moment with Jon in the Northmen council Posted Image

Well, news just dropped that the final season will begin airing first half of 2019. If they hold to tradition, I'm hoping that means April. Which means we only have a 9/10 month wait. You guys pumped or what?

I mean, I don't believe their grandiose claim when they say it's the most sustained action scene whatever, and am a big concerned if they're not lying that it's just gonna be a bad mish-mash of pacing and no character, but to be fair they adress those concerns so I'm intrigued.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I have a very low expectation for S8 given how S7 nosedived in overall quality.

I'm expecting spectacle above all else, with all the build up from the first books to be wasted or ignored in favour of battle scenes, with victories and losses taking centre stage over the more subtle politics and world building. It will be good tv, but I doubt anyone whose enjoyed the books will be satisfied. I'd like to be proved wrong, but after the last season I'm not optimistic.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Sort of maybe.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.
