So I'm reading DG right now and came to a bit that confused me.

I thought that Felisin, Baudin and Heboric were travelling at night across the island and resting in the hot days. Or was this just for the first night? Yet shortly after they come across the jade finger in the sand they set up camp and retire to the tents (otataral dust storm).
Then the confusing line, "Muscles aching, she crawled from the tent into the chill morning air" this was shortly before eating rationed breakfast then heading off.. In the morning? Am I missing something?

A few paragraphs later comes this line.. "True to Baudin’s prediction, there was no waterhole to mark the end of the night’s journey"

So they are journeying at night.. I dont get it. Chill morning air, night travel.

Is it suggesting they are leaving well into the night? After midnight? Hence morning air?

Either that's an error that nobody caught during editing or it's a secret that won't be explained until Book 7. I'm not telling which.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

My guess would be that it's sometime in the third-quarter of the night.

I suspect that it is just a mistake that slipped through. Later on they still only travel by night.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

from my understanding, i think at one point it was mentioned that excuse they were falling back(being tired and exhausted) they were losing time, thus having to walk further and longer each day. and I'm pretty sure around where they find the waterhole filled with the cape moths that they had to keep going to make up for their lost time. IIRC it was Baudin that explained it.
“Hello, Capustan. The Bridgeburners have arrived.”
