So, long overdue thoughts on the last part of the book -
Spoiler
The Count clearly did not have things as together as he would have liked. Mercedes was his big weakness and without her he would have died.
The fate of Villefort's fmaily clearly shook him and I found his visit to Faria's cell very interesting. The fresh lease on life he seemed to draw from there seemed to change him, and his revenge on Danglars was far more deliberate than anything else we had seen in the entire book.
Also his total blindness to Haidee came as a bit of a facepalm moment to be honest.
I was very happy for Morrel. One of the few totally decent people who came out happy and prosperous from the entire affair. For far too long I was apprehensive that his story was going to end in a Romeo and Juliet scene, it did have some similarities, but thankfully Dumas steered away from Shakespeare.
Overall I absolutely loved reading this book, and I wish more 19th C books were like this.
