The answer to this question involves crucial and explicit spoilers.

Suffice to say, Andarist has a tragic past and the weight of this tragedy led him down a different path compared to his brothers

I'm blanking here but is it revealed in Reapers Gale, or just in FoD?

I believe it is hinted at in House of Chains but never explored before later books (After Reapers Gale).

In regards to the surrender part of the quote:

In HoC we meet Andarist for the first time. He is an ancient Andii who was the brother of Anomander Rake. Unlike Rake and Silchas Ruin, Andarist gave up what ever power he may have acquired during events that are not quite clear as of the 7th book. He could have been an ascendant of the likes of Anomander Rake but instead chose seclusion and a kind of guardianship.

Suffice to say that Andarist is a very dour, very miserable Andii even by Andii standards.

His cat had run off never to return?
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

If I remember, it is mentioned in RG's prologue that Scabandari Bloodeye was part of the betrayal. The replies seem to indicate this betrayal has some role to play in the coming books, but cant imagine what.

I think you are mixing up brothers now.

He sort of did, but i fear that is spoiler territory. The bertrayal of silchas is very clear and openly stated in the main books, but the Andarist situation is a bit more complex and more historical.

I don't understand.... if someone told you they thought it was a "letdown" you'd what? Quit reading the series?
Basically, RAFO , and trust the author.

That would be an overreaction. If I expected a letdown, I would be cynical about it. Heh.

SE doesnt do letdowns, only delayed payoffs. Patience is a virtue, like lifting the toilet seat before peeing.
