Some sort of ice attack. What killed them and why?

I modgod'd the thread title since you found the answer to the Barghast question already.

FW was a ghost absorbed by Icarium's device back in RG, but when she died she had already forced herself on the Errant as his destriant. The link was there, the ghost eyeball was just how the ghosts saw it.

Icarium knew what to do and the ghosts were already part of him.

Strange is just a state of mind. I sometimes watch anime and am baffled by some of the events, whereas people with a different cultural background find it easily understandable. Crouching tiger, hidden dragon has flying ninja's.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.
