Philly is a big city.

So is DC. Also DC has lots of free museums if people are interested in that sort of thing.

I may have considered this, being just north of the border, but my vacation time for the rest of the year is already allocated

I'm thinking we should target the spring after the holidays. Particularly for folks potentially coming from abroad.

Much, much better. Still only a 1 in 10 I can attend, but maybe I could designate it a honeymoon.

Nothing says romance like a honeymoon with a bunch of Malazans.

Wait... people still get married?

How preposterous.

Please let this meetup still be a viable thing. I'm back in college but chicago is a definite maybe from me and with enough time to plan just about anything can be suckered out of the wife...

Just as a pre-caution, really, in case we want to buy property in Poland (or an accident happens to one of us).
Dutch law has a perfectly useful no fuss partner agreement... which is not recognized in Poland, which only recognizes marriage. So, we're going to get married under Dutch law, which could also help if the GF wants to switch nationalities: because she is not very happy with the current government, which consists of a puppet master who publicly brands those who demonstrate against his (party's) rule as "traitors with bad genes" or "Gestapo collaborators".

I guess we need to put up a vote. Let me look at my work calendar and we can vote on weekends and locations. I'm partial to the central US, but that's because getting to the easy coast is a bitch. I'm really pretty open on the "where" of things.

Depends on when. Anything between March and August I can't do. Yes, I realize that is half the year. Maybe March, maybe August. Everything else I'm living in Kentucky in a hotel room.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
