FX and Marvel present LEGION X-men coming to a TV near you

This has got to be one of the most "Out of left field" TV-adaptions I have ever seen announced.
Of all the X-men related shows they could make, this certainly is a different choice. It seems like they are going for a good guy Legion show, but I wonder if by the end of season one he's going to go all Sylar on the audience.

On the one hamd the way they are dancing around the 'its an xmen show only its in a different universe that has no xmen but its totally an xmen show' thing is annoying the fuckstars out of me.
On the other hand, the core concept behind Legion, multiple personalities for multiple powers, has terrific potential. Also, Bollywood dance number.

So is this part of the MCU like AoS/Daredevil/etc or nah?

"one of the most powerful mutants we ever encountered" suggests there is an established mutant presence there, even if it's not in the main X-Men 'verse.
As a mutant, it's a Fox property.

Well, the MCU could probably buy the right to borrow something but FX is a part of FOX, which owns the rights to the X-men and anything else mutant related.
That's the reason why they are allowed to actually use the word mutant in the trailer and not enhanced or mutate.
Netflix is doing Daredevil and other Defenders related stuff, so they probably have the rights to anything related to those heroes. So again, not part of the cinematic universe.
Agents of Shield is produced by ABC, again not a part of the MCU but considering it basically ties into the Captain America films, it can overlap.
But so far FOX has denied/not been offered the right amount of money to allow Mutants to appear in the MCU.
In other words don't expect the Avengers to pop up in Legion.

The Netflix 'verse is officially part of the MCU. It doesn't come up much but there are references.

If that is true I would love a cameo from Black Widow in Daredevil. And maybe a Iron Fist overlap with Doctor Strange.

I have no idea what this is but it looks cool.

I hope they take a lot character work/storylines from the fantastic X-Men: Legacy by Si Spurrier, as it was one of the few times Legion was an actually interesting character.

No connection to MCU or Fox X films. No guest appearances, no crossovers.I was surprised they used the word 'mutant' even.
Agreed Legacy did some neat stuff with Legion and i hope they at least draw on those ideas. The psyche prison was awesome.

Parts of this are filmed at the university I go to. I was looking at the trailer and went all "wait, that looks like UBC. WTF that's definitely UBC".
Overall though, I'm sick and tired of comic book adaptations.

Well, it all took place in the actors mind. So, it was probably just some disheveled man standing in a hallway making strange faces for 18 hours a day.

Nah, I knew The Man in High Castle and Supernatural were filmed partly near UBC, but not about this one. I haven't been there all summer though.

This looks weird. Fractured, skewed, and weird in the way this should look. If they can keep this style going without it becoming hackneyed, I will definitely watch.

Yeah, the best thing they could do is stay as far away from anything Marvel Comics related as possible.
...the Bollywood dance number is a solid start.

Nope. Sorry. I can't see Hamish Linklater in anything without seeing his GROOVE character. LOL. I would just be expecting him to be going to a rave later on.

The entire plotline of season 1 of Daredevil was about the crooks buying up cheap semi-destroyed property in the wake of the battle of New York at the end of The Avengers. It's explicitly in the MCU.
AoS has had Nick Fury and Sif appear in it (plus Sitwell and others) - also explicitly MCU continuity
Surprised Fox isn't tying this into their movies, but maybe like the Arrow related shows they're planning a strictly separate continuity for TV versus movies.

Given the awkward relationship between Fox and Disney/Marvel this isn't really surprising.

I think he means tying it into the X-Men movies or Deadpool.
