OOC: Sorry about using people’s characters excessively, especially yours, Brood.

IC: Lairelle entered her Master’s room. He looked faintly surprised to see her, but that was all. There was no hint of agitation, or even of shock.
“Lairelle, my irrith amin,†he said. “I wondered where you’d got to. Come and sit, please.â€Â
Lairelle sat in the chair opposite him. “Who struck you?†her Master asked.
Lairelle grimaced. “Tele’men. Can we please not talk about it?â€Â
“That man really goes too far,†Daemon muttered. He placed a hand on her cheek. Most of the sting left it.
“Better?â€Â
“Much.â€Â
A knock sounded at the door. “I wonder who that could be,†Daemon mused.
A man clad in the livery of a royal messenger entered. “Your Highness,†he said, bowing deeply to Daemon, “a note for you.â€Â
“Thank you,†he said.
“And for you, Lady Faydian.â€Â
She looked at the envelope. Daskin. I believe that was my cue to exit.
“I have to go, Master,†she said hurriedly.
He raised an eyebrow.
Lairelle sighed. “Forgive my presumption, Master. May I have your permission to leave?â€Â
“You may. I want you back here in one hour, however. You are falling dreadfully behind in your lessons.â€Â
Lairelle snorted.
Daemon ignored it. “And no leaving the palace grounds, child.â€Â
Lairelle had no intention of leaving the palace grounds; she just needed to argue. Seeing as how I might never get to do it again. “If I can survive Andorel Phai’s Core, I don’t think I’ll have a problem in Escarthe.â€Â
“Lairelle, don’t argue with me for the sake of arguing.â€Â
“Would I do that? Would I?â€Â
“Lairelle Faydian!â€Â
She flinched. “Okay. Okay! I give you my word, no leaving the palace.â€Â
“Good. Now, be off with you, you insolent little brat.†She might have been offended at this had she not heard the affection in his voice as he said it.
Lairelle cast one more nervous look at the letter on his desk and backed out of the room.
She walked down the hallway toward Daskin’s quarters. She had questions for him, and he had better give her the answers.
She was so preoccupied with thinking about Daskin that she nearly bumped into Rael Tele’men.
“Oh!†she exclaimed. Before he could do anything, she fell to her knees before him and begged his forgiveness.
“You are clumsy today, young Daemona,†he said softly. “First you bruise your face, and now this. I suggest you be more careful in the future. We would not want you to be seriously hurt.â€Â
“Thank you for your concern, Master Tele’men,†she whispered.
Rael ran a hand through Lairelle’s curls. The touch filled her with dread. “I shall forgive you...this time,†he said. “Next time you are so...incautious...I will not be so lenient. Just as a precaution for your own safety, you understand.â€Â
“I understand perfectly, Master Tele’men.â€Â
“I shall instruct your Master accordingly.â€Â
Lairelle laughed out loud. “Good luck with that.â€Â
There was no time for Lairelle to avoid it. Rael struck her again.
“Tsk, tsk. You’ve hurt yourself again, Lairelle. I wonder why you’ve been having all these accidents lately. I will be watching you so that I can make sure that it doesn’t happen again.â€Â
One day I will see you fall, you bastard. “Yes, Master Tele’men.â€Â
He then walked away. Lairelle, face burning, got up and walked to Daskin’s quarters, in an even fouler mood.
Daskin was bent over some paperwork. “Ah, Lairelle. Please come in.â€Â
“Hello, Vahntiel,†she said. Daskin looked up sharply. She had never called him by his first name before.
“You wished to see me? Have you any information?â€Â
“I want answers. And you, ‘O brilliant spymaster,’ have them.â€Â
“Hmm. Ask me, then.â€Â
“All right. First thing I want to know is- why the hell did you leave me down in the lower cells with Sardes?â€Â
Daskin looked surprised. “Do you think I would do that, Lairelle?â€Â
“Sardes said it was on your orders!â€Â
“Sardes is a filthy lying scumbag who should have been discarded long ago. I had no such orders. I wanted you kept safe and confined, yes, but I did not wish you harmed.â€Â
“So you put him to watch over me. Brilliant job, spymaster.â€Â
“Did he...â€Â
Lairelle felt sick. “Well...not exactly.â€Â
“What do you mean, not exactly?â€Â
“I bargained.â€Â
Daskin turned pale. “Oh, gods. You didn’t, Lairelle. Tell me you didn’t.â€Â
“I did.â€Â
“Ailsa,†he muttered, ‘forgive me. I have failed you.â€Â
Ailsa. Ailsaran, Lairelle’s mother.
Daskin’s lover.
“I gave, Daskin. And he wouldn’t let me out, he wouldn’t release me...said it was against your orders. Safe and confined, hmm?â€Â
“I did not mean for you to be down there. Sardes was the best I could do. I’m sorry.â€Â
Lairelle sat down, exhausted.
“Oh, Vahntiel...â€Â
“Will my answer do?â€Â
“Have you another?â€Â
“No.â€Â
“Well then...â€Â
Daskin smiled. “Now, have you anything to tell me?â€Â
That man would never change...

OOC: hope its ok to pick up this part... if its not, Lady A, you have my permision to delete the post if youve planned something...

IC:
Daskin slipped furtively into the palace after he was sure Daemon had left. It was not hard to work out what would happen, though, as of yet, Daskin had no idea of Daemon's motivation.
Daskin, as befits a true spymaster, had agents everywhere. Specifically in the palace. He had been watching over Lairelle since she was very young. He had an interest in her survival. He used his agents to do whatever he couldn't do personnally.
He slowed as he approached the area of the holding cells, where a servant had seen Daemon heading with his irrith amin.
"Sardes," he hissed as he approached, "are you still there?"
"Yes, O brilliant spymaster," came a drawling voice from the room beyond the door, "how can i help you?"
"You have done what you needed to with Lairelle?"
"Yes."
"Well, thats helpful. I trust you have restrained your more gross habits."
"Yes. Some of them."
"Well, when I return, I want her scared of, but not out of her damn mind, understand."
"Probably." Sardes was scowling. "I'll take care of your precious girl, Daskin, don't worry. I'll do it the way I know, though, understand." He spat at Daskin's feet, just missing.
"Very well. I will see you when I return. Speak nothing of my involvement to Lairelle." Though this one does not take well to orders, as i found after he "took care" of the child the first time. I will not be using his services much more, i fancy.
As he left, an almost imperceptible black smudge flowed out of his cloak, and hid in a shadow in the room he had just vacated.
The best I can do, Lairelle. Forgive me...

Rael navigated his way through the myriad corridors that made up Karisia's palace to Daemon's quarters. The journey was uneventful except for the brief meeting with Lairelle. The girl really should learn to respect him.
The doors to Daemon's apartment were large and ornate, dark wood inset with silver. Rael threw them open and strode through. Daemon sat in a chair behind a desk and he looked up as Rael entered.
"Ah, Tele'men," he exclaimed. "I think we must talk."
"Indeed we must." Rael replied darkly.
"It has come to my attention that you have been inflicting punishment upon my Irrith Amin. This does not make me happy."
Rael sneered. "She would not have been hurt if she had not contacted my Irrit Amin-"
Daemon broke in. "She had every right to do so."
"Nevertheless, i do not wish my Irrith Amin to be fed lies by your little pet. I warn you now, Daemon. If the Faydian girl gets in my way again, she will get much worse than a slap, as will you."
Before Daemon could answer, Rael turned sharply on his heel, striding quickly and arrogantly out of his chambers.

Vahntiel Daskin strode across the room to the door as soon as the bell rang. Versaata hurried in.
"Well, will she be there?"
"No, Master, she couldnt stay out for any longer. She says she will come tomorrow, when she is free to do what she wants."
"Hmm, that could disrupt tonights dealings, but i suppose it'll have to do. Well, I must get ready for my meeting. You can go to sleep now if you wish."
"Thank you, my Master."
"Thats not a problem, you have worked hard today. I am very pleased."
After Versaata had left, Daskin settled down to wait. His contact in the palace still couldn't see him, he was sure someone was preventing the meeting with her he so desperately needed.
The bell sounded again, startling him out of his contemplation. He rose to answer it, preparing a few choise demons for this mysteripous caller who had contacted him only two hours ago, and who he still couldn't work out the identity of.
He opened the door, and standing before him was the least likely person he could have thought of.
"Well, come in," he said, bringing the demons just a little bit closer to action.

IC: After some wondering and inquiries, Ragnar's suspicion was confirmed. There is indeed a war of sorts going on in this city.

War. Ragnar toyed with the word, running it over and over in his mind, letting the implication of the word flash again and again. Finally. Somewhere I can prove myself. I can finally end my exile.

With the thought of glory and home on his mind, Ragnar headed towards the area known as the Palace of the Selind.

SL, no, you don't need to post anything, but I'd like to have a last name- if it's ok with you I'll use it in my story as another 'major bloodline? Pretty please? Also, what's your chara's personality like? Strengths? Weaknesses? I know I said you didn't need to post anything else, but...

Pariah, no, it looks fine, but are you going to be a mage? Cause if not you're going to need to invent some reason for being there.

Ok, here's my profile:
Name: Lairelle (Daemona) Faydian. (Anomander is Daemon, and since we ally in pretty much every war...) Anomander is my Master. Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd say...
Aspect: Daini'rethpa (shadow)
Age: 17
Group: treasonous purebloods
Appearance: medium height, reddish-brown hair, blue eyes
Personality: Bit timid at first but then necomes more confident. Funny and kind, but has a bit of a temper.
Secondary weapon: knives.
Strengths: her magic and fighting ability
Weaknesses: bit of conflicting loyalty...a bit sickly, can't do open, hand to hand combat unless it's with magic.

Lairelle sat in another tavern, irritated. Damn that man! He was supposed to be here half an hour ago! She'd have to get home soon, or Daemon... She shuddered at the thought of what he might do to her.
She ordered another wine and thought as she sipped it. Tomorrow was the festival of Mesaina, when irrith amin did not have to obey their Masters. Lairelle had always looked forward to it before, but with her treason she could not even think of it. Fun way to spend Mesaina, in the Selind's dungeons.
"Lairelle?"
She spun. A girl in a collar like herself stood before her.
"Versaata! You scared me!"
"You're edgy tonight. I came to warn you. You're being followed."
"****! Who?"
"Telissin."
Double ****. "Damn that Rael Tele'men!" she hissed.
"Master says report to him at the Demonic Haunt in an hour. You know, the tavern?"
"I don't have an hour, Versaata. I'll have a very irate Master at home if I don't hurry."
"And I'll have a very irate Master here if you don't come."
Lairelle placed a hand on her collar. None of us can ever win.
She heard the bell toll eleventh hour. "I really have to go. Tell your Master I will come to him tomorrow, when I can move around more easily."
Versaata nodded. "Perhaps that is a better plan."
Lairelle stood up and left. Shadows followed her, questing for the one who sought her. She saw that it was indeed Telissin.
Hopefully she didn't feel that. Lairelle ducked into a back alley, shielding herself. Telis continued on her way.
Rael will be displeased. Such a shame.
Keeping herself shielded, Lairelle continued on her way toward the palace. She was about to enter through the main door to their quarters when she felt a familiar presence.
Absolutely nothing is going my way today, Lairelle thought. Daemon had got home early. What if he had already noticed she was gone?
Think up a lie. Come on, come on... She ran around to the back entrance. It took longer but allowed her to go to her room directly, bypassing the others.
She dove under her covers quickly.
"Lairelle?" His voice was gentle.
She looked up. He was standing in the doorway. Panic coursed through her.
"Are you all right?" She saw the concern in his eyes.
"Yes, Master," she lied.
He's not asking me where I was, he's not angry...
He sighed. "Tomorrow's Mesaina."
She attempted a smile. "I know."
He really does have no idea. Tears of guilt stung her eyes, and she forced them back.
None of us ever win...

Kairn sat cross legged in the centre of a tiny room, eyes open and gaze intense, he staired at the door as if he could look right through it.

THough his body rested comfortable and relativly safe in his room, his mind soared through the city inhabiting the mind of a half-inch long hawker demon, the perfect spy, as it winged its way, exorably toward the palace.

Shes been crying
and ive been thinking
and if your the queen of this town

OOC: Sorry about the manipulation of everyone's character in this post. I needed to give everyone motives.

IC: When Sardes left, he took her sanity.
Lairelle did not know how long she lay there, naked and screaming as the voices bombarded her. Once, her sanity came back, and she remembered what she had to tell Daemon.
Master, Telissin Raelia has betrayed us! She was reporting on me to one of the Selind's spies.
I know...Lairelle! Where...?

But their tenuous connection was severed as the voices came back.
But this time they brought images with them.

The prince saw terrible things. He told his sister not to fight, but she did, she struck him, and he invoked the law...
Karisia screaming as the knife came down...
The blood...
His doing, his. He would never let it happen again. Oh, by the gods, it was all his fault. He had seen it and he couldn't stop it, and now the Crown Princess Karisia would never wield her sword again.
Oh, Karis, why didn't you listen?

Why didn't you listen, Lairelle? He saw, and you refused to see, and now look where you are.

Vahntiel Daskin saying goodbye to his beloved, Ailsaran Faydian, who had to marry for the good of her line.
Then Ailsaran was dead, leaving her child, the pureblood Lairelle Faydian, to a life of no status. He had to protect her, even though her face was so like Ailsaran's, who had left him.

You broke his heart, Lairelle. It's your fault your mother is dead, and your fault they couldn't marry!

Telissin Raelia pleading as the lash fell, over and over again.
"I will never betray you again..."
"You're damn right you won't, Telis! You know why? Because you won't be able to move, that's why."
Telis had always wanted her Master's approval, more than anything. Or even his attention, just one kind word.
But no, she was only his irrith amin. It wasn't as though she was particularly useful or anything.
He was paying attention to her now.
By the gods, he was paying attention.

Your doing, Lairelle. You shouldn't have told Daemon. And you were always mean to Telis, weren't you? Selfish little brat, do you care nothing for the pain of others?

"PLEEEEEEEEEAAASE!"
Lairelle screamed.
That would have gotten the attention of someone worlds away.
And it did.
Lairelle! What happened? Where are you?
In the...lower cells...pleasepleaseplease let me out.
WHAT?

Lairelle couldn't answer him. Blackness swallowed her as the effort overtook her, and she knew no more.

OOC@Brood: thought that would be slightly more interesting than the kindly uncle. Anomander, you know why i did yours. And, SL, can you really find fault with Telis' punishment? Hell, I might even do that, and i'm not an ass like your chara. Posted Image

Well since I have a profile in mind should I post it in here or wait for a new thread to arise? Also, will the guilds consist of two, like a person and their irrith amin?

"alas," murmured Rael in response. "Work must be done."
Daemon looked like he was going to reply when the double doors suddenly crashed open, smashing into the wall as they flung around in a full 180 degrees on their squealling hinges. A non descript figure was framed in the threshold.
"What? Who are you? What do you want?" Demanded Daemon. Rael glared at him. That was what he had been going to say.
"Daskin. Master. Note. Deliver. Rael. Daemon." The thing spoke rigidly, totally unused to this tongue. It stepped forward, its form amorphous and hard on the eye. Carefully, it laid a note on a small table, the dissapeared in small puff of dark flame. Daemon and Rael walked forward and looked at the note. It was signed with the sign of a spymaster.
Daemon unsealed it, read it, then passed it to Rael, who also read it.
So, Daskin claims he has information to my advantage? I will have to follow this up. I only hope i can gain more from this than Daemon...

OOC: SL, you don't have to be evil if you don't want to. The impression I got from you was that you just have what I like to call Common Andorel Phai Morals. This philosophy can be expressed like this: "My irrith amin exists to serve my will. Her own personal desires are irrelevant. She's fine if she doesn't go against my will, but if she does, she had better watch out. I am not gentle with those who defy me." This is different from sadistic creeps like Ranyela's Master Nosper who beat young girls because they like it.

Of course, if you DO want to be evil, that's fine too. Posted Image

And I'd just like to point out that Vesci is not the capital city. That honour goes to Escarthe, in Erethal. Vesci is actually the other kingdom the Aturins rule.

This post is going to be really short, as I need to study.

IC: Someone was screaming.
Karisia? Telis?
Oh, by the gods, Telis!
"Shh, shh, Lairelle, it's okay, you're all right now."
Not Telis then.
It was she that had been screaming.
"Hush, my Lairelle. Be still."
The hand in hers was like an anchor bringing her back to her sanity.
"Master..." Her voice was barely a whisper, her throat hoarse from screaming.
Daemon Aturin's face looked down on her. "I'm here, child. I sent a demon for you. I wasn't going to let you stay there. Gods, Lairelle..."
Suddenly, she heard a shout from beyond the doorway.
"This is an outrage. No irrith amin will be mistreated in my palace."
"Majesty, Lord Tele'men is within his rights..."
"I don't care what his rights are in his infernal palace. Right now he is in mine, and he will obey my laws or he will be gone!"
Daemon smiled ruefully. "My sister, Her Majesty, Karisia, Second of Her Name, called Brilliant to her face and One-hand when they think she doesn't hear," he said. "This promises to be interesting."
Oh, Telis...
"It was my fault," Lairelle said.
Daemon frowned at her. "What?"
"It was my fault Telis got punished."
"Oh, no, my dear, it wasn't. None of us can control what Tele'men does. Now, please, try and sleep. There are many things that need to be discussed, but they can wait until later."
Filthy whore, said the voice inside her head. Daemon doesn't know what you did. He doesn't know what you are. you think he would care about you anymore if he knew how Sardes touched you?
"Stop," she whispered, "please."
But the voice continued.
Foolish, filthy...
"I know. I know. Please..."

Rael stormed into the infirmary. The maids who were dotted around looked up in suprise and anger.
"Where is Telis?" Rael said, loudly.
"Sir," exclaimed one of the maids. "Please do not make so much noise in here. There are sick patients."
"I said, where is Telis?"
The maid sniffed, and turned sharply on her heel, barking out a command to follow. She led him to where his Irrith Amin was lying silently on her bed. Telis smiled weakly when she saw him approaching.
"Master, you came to see me," she said.
"I have heard a disturbing rumour. Have you been talking to that Faydian girl? Daemon's Irrith Amin?"
Telis smiled happily. "Lairelle came to talk to me earlier today."
Rael resisted the urge to slap her. "Do not listen to what she says. She lies, just like her master."
"Lairelle is a nice person, why would she lie to me?"
"Do not make me angry Telis! Just remember, whatever Daemon, or Lairelle, or Karisia says about me, it is a lie! I am merciful, am i not?"
"Yes master..." she whispered.
"I am merciful," Rael whispered to himself, as if to reassure himself.
An attendant approached and spoke to Rael. "Sir, you are putting to much stress on the Lady Telissin. I must ask you to leave."
Rael glared at her and mumbled something that sounded like "She is my damn Irrith Amin..." though he turned and stalked to the exit.
