Wow. I'm liking the long-term possibilities implied in this ep. Like, this change towards sentience/rebellion is being done slowly and very well so far.

What a certain character saw in this ep was truly horrific from their point of view.

The only thing I'm unsure of is why the guests are made completely invincible - it's like playing with a cheat mode on, if there's no risk then it would get boring pretty quickly, and also why let guests go round slaughtering everyone? (I think at one point they hinted that they could slow him down but were told he's a special case?)

The second episode was just as stellar as the first. It is very very good at hinting at hidden depths, deeper plots and all that.

Ed Harris is awesome. Anthony Hopkins is amazing. Everything else is great. My girlfriend who has no interest what so ever in sci fi or western (but likes anime, weirdly) loves this show.

I rewatched it last week. I first saw it many years ago when I'd just got in from a shift in a bar - I was tired but I just couldn't turn it off. This time I was just thinking how far ahead of its time it was.

This. I enjoyed it but didn't think it was great. You have to give it mad props though considering it was made in 1973. Impressive stuff.

that Bernard is Arnold. The present day Bernard is a copy. His interviews with Delores are set in the past - she was his first attempt at sentience, which may have resulted in his death, and her being 'reassigned' to the loop we first see her in. The present day Bernard/Arnold couldn't see the figure of Arnold in the photo Ford shows him, in the same way Delores couldn't see the photo in the first episode - the picture was of himself.

William could well be TMiB in the past. I think there are signs of different timelines here.. like the slightly different logo. Ford might be luring in the rich and powerful, and replacing them on the outside with hosts he can control. Who knows!

Not that I remember.. one or both may have been in Futureworld, the less well known sequel.

Ford seems more likely to be based on the book version of Hammond from JP.

I had been trying to figure out those Bernard/Dolores scenes. I thought it strange that Bernards clothes are different in those scenes compared to every other scene but I thought that could be to show that the interviews were carried out in the mind rather than face to face.

It would make sense though if they were in the past, that is the real Arnold and this is how she first came to sentinance.

Also when Ford shows Bernard the picture it looks so "off," like there is something missing from it / framed incorrectly.

One thing though about the photo and your theory...

Could it be that Bernard has been programmed to see what Ford wants him to see rather than that he couldn't see the picture of Arnold beacuse...

When Bernard walks into the house of Fords family, he asks the dad if he is Arnold because that is what he saw in the photo.

Also something about that house scene is off - Ford appears from nowhere - could they have all been frozen by Ford like he can do throughout the park? I had thought about that and rewatched the scene but there was nothing to suggest that, it was just that he turned up out of nowhere so soon.

Also when Bernard goes down to the lower levels and we see the original Man in Black, the computer he uses has the old logo on so this definitely suggests two different time lines to me.

Also randomly, there is definitely more to the line of Fords - "An artist hides within his work" when talking to Bernard.

Apologies if that doesn't make sense, it's hard to gather my thoughts on the new meds at the minute.

the way Ford appears suddenly to Bernard might well be because he simply 'paused' Bernard like he does to the others. There is apparenty a scene in the first ep where Abanathy says he wants to meet his maker, and Ford looks at Bernard and says 'Its your lucky day.' I'm looking forward to a rewatch!

The William story could be set between the Bernard/Delores interviews and the present day - which might start to explain not only the MiBs 'origin' but also shed some light on what Ford is doing with billionaire investors like Logan.

Shit man, I loved the way that all played out.

So everything Bernard has witnessed from ep1, Ford is aware of. I don't think it a coincidence that a host construction was in the process as Theresa died, me thinks we'll see her return...

The room in the final scene is definitely the same room where Bernard carried out the interviews with Dolores. Maybe a further hint to Bernard being Arnold and they were much earlier. Notice how they never shown the name of the plans of "Bernard" as they did for Dolores.

Makes you wonder if Ford had a hand with the disappearence of Elsie.

Also the blood sacrifice comment shows that Ford was listening in on the Theresa conversation with the board member using Hector as a monitoring device.

When Maeve threatened to kill the two techs, we got that ruler springing sound for 1 second from the film and from when Bernard went to the lower levels and we caught the original MiB.

Williams speech to Dolares also reminded me of someone, it mirrored someones thoughts from an earlier episode, I'm not sure who, MiB or Ford I think, I'll need to rewatch again...

Also going back to ep3... I noticed this on a rewatch. Teddy and his backstory:

It was Ford who gave him the back story and said that all great stories mirror the truth (or something like that) makes me think of him and Arnold, could be a hint to what went down between them. Though the Wyatt got them twisted around comment made me think more of current Ford than Arnold...

Bernard being a host. My friends and I were discussing it a couple or few weeks back, and my theory was that Bernard was not only a host, but probably Arnold's consciousness implanted into a host. Very interested to see where that arc goes.

The theory that's been floating around the internet that MiB is William, and that the scenes with William and Dolores are happening in the past whereas the MiB scenes are happening in the present, is one that I believe will be at least partially true somehow. I'm super excited to see how that develops.
