Hey guys!
First off, I am not a native english speaker so please forgive me for my grammar mistakes. I also do read the book in german, my native language. So I started with Gardens of the Moon a few days ago and while reading the names of the cities mentioned in the book, I took a look at the map of Genabackis (that's how the continent is called in the German books, don't know about the English one) and realized that there is no city like Unta or Itko Kan (cities in the German version) on the map of Genabackis. My question is, are these cities on another continent or is it just because I am reading the German books and the cities and the continent have other names in the English version of the books? Or is it something completely else? I hope some of you can help me.

Those cities are on another continent.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Here's the map of the Malazan Empire's central continent. It's a big map.

Spoiler

You can find Unta on the right and Itko Khan down south,

Here is a world map by D'rek (One of the people on this forum):

http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/malazan/images/e/e0/Malazan_World_Map_by_D'rek.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20141221120212

As you can see there are quite a few continents in the Malazan world, so more than a few places you hear about will be on different continents.

EDIT: No idea why it makes the picture so small, where I took the picture from it is 3473 x 1932.

This is a better size version:

Beware though, the map itself may contain spoilers for future books, as there is a reason certain continents are only revealed at certain times during the series.

Also, this map is an approximation of the world as constructed by D'rek in discussion with other Malazan readers. It is not an officially endorsed representation, so there may be errors (please don't hurt me, D'rek).

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

You may wish to check out the German Malazan Wiki, Kaydot. You'll find an A-Z German/English and English/German guide there for many of the character and place names in the books.

As for maps... if you do want to compare maps:

The English maps page explains which maps are in which English books. You can also use the link at the top of that page to go to the map gallery itself. If you follow a link to a book page, go directly from the content menu to the map section to avoid spoilers.

Link to the German Maps section of the German Wiki.

Personally, I don't regard maps overall to be of high spoiler value but then, for some, just knowing that a book takes part on a different continent is too much information. Of all of the maps, the ones for Deadhouse Gates are probably the ones you may wish to avoid until you have read the book itself.
