Assassin's Creed Movie Trailer

Looks fantastic actually. I trust Fassbender to bring the correct gravitas to the role, Justin Kurzel's direction history is pretty stellar, and I would say the only thing to cause any worry is the list of re-writes the script went through.
But honestly this captures the game well, and looks like fun. I'm in.

I really hope you're right Quick, as I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game and there's a solid premise for a good action film here. And Fassbenders just a ledgbag like.
But
But
Its a game adaptation, and the trailer makes it look like a free running commercial with knives.
And BWWWWAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMM

Both of those last things are indeed true and cause for worry. Only time will tell.
There are VERY few good video game to film adaptations aren't there? The only one I can recall liking was MORTAL KOMBAT.

I really like the look of this.
I think the fact they've already announced a sequel suggests they know they're on to a winner here.

I rewatched MK a few years ago.
Doesn't stand up to it. It was entertaining for the cheese end but really a terrible film. Same with street fighter. Awesome as a kid, awesomely bad as an adult.
Tomb Raider gets touted but its really just an acceptable action flick with Angelina Jolie I. Tight shorts and tank tops.
Prime of Persia I was tentatively excited about, cause I loved Warrior Within, and the promo shots Id seen of Jake looked like they were going with that setting and dark overlay for the prince, but it was a mash of the outlooks of sands and warrior which didn't work and the story and score didn't suit his look. Blech they wasted it there, and had the budget and cast to make a good show of it.
I haven't rewatched super mario bros, I don't want to ruin any more childhood memories.

Cynically I note than a sequel can easily be cancelled the second it tanks.
This is big budget, and will need to make a tight opener to guarantee that sequel.
Could also be a marketing ploy to get people onside saying "there's a sequel coming out, fassbender wouldn't commit to a second unless it was good"
Im curious, has Fassbender signed for a sequel, is it going to franchise ala resident evil or will they wait to cast a sequel depending on the financial success of 1.
Its a franchise that lends itself VERY easily to a changing cast.
Im still.amazed at how well the RE movies have done

Fassbender has signed on to the sequel.
But hey, if it's just a marketing ploy it's worked on me!

I wonder why they think computer games will make great films.
Because many video games would make great films, if given the proper treatment. The problem has not been that the medium is inherently unadaptable, it's that movie studios have basically treated video game adaps as a relatively steady source of audience that they don't need to make a real effort with.
The Warcraft movie doesn't look great but its the first one I can think of where a proper effort's been made and that could be the sign of things to come even if the movie itself isn't that great. This certainly looks the part (from someone who's never played AC).

My only complaint is that ear grating hip hop rap bullshit(yes I detest rap) in a setting 500 yrs in the past. Made my eyes twitch.
I don't think that particular song was the best choice necessarily, it fits a bit awkwardly with the rhythm, but I can think of plenty of hip-hop (including some by Kanye) that would have made great music for that trailer (No Church in the Wild was my first thought).
It's not as if the setting's particularly realistic, come on. That kind of music matches the dramatic OTT flair the trailer is showing, imo.
But then I've never minded anachronistic music in the right situation.

I think people who have never played the games but enjoy action/fantasy movies will love this. People who love the games will inevitably cry foul if there is the tiniest flaw. AC lends itself well to being a movie/series of movies but I hope it will be better than "looks good..." Cos yeah it looks like they have kept to the feel of the games but the film will have to be more then that...

As a fan of the games, I think as long as they get the main facets down (it looks like they largely have) I'll be happy with whatever changes they need to make to help it fly as a movie.
