"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

To read or not to read.

I just skimmed down the page. I don't remember half of those names.

Not touching without a FoD reread first.

Read the first part. I definitely need the list of names in the beginning of the book to remember the people in it. I remember some of them but too vaguely.

Scrolled over it, giggling like a kid at christmas. Loving that end part. But am going to read it on my way to work tomorrow, nothing better to start the day with than a new malazan chapter and coffee.

You amateurs! ;)

They are all present in FoD and named as well, it shouldn't take much to remember.

(I've done a re-read of FoD a year ago or so, might be biased.)
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Okay, I love it.

And we now know that Gallan has not read the Malazan Book of the Fallen. Shame on you Gallan. =D
(okay, he is blind - but that is no excuse)

Thank you for posting the link, Salt-Man Z.

For everyone scratching their heads over names - check out the extended Dramatis Personae for Forge of Darkness on the Wiki:

http://malazan.wikia...amatis_Personae

It lists pretty much every single character which appears in person or in name in FoD.

Kudos goes to ArchieVist for most of the work on this one!

Read chapter 2 (and 1). Very meaty! Not a lot of things happen, but lots of explanations. And lots of drinking :)

To be honest, considering Gallan's 'I'll manage to make you understand things aren't as awesome and nice as you still seem to think they are!'-attitude in Chapter 1, I'm willing to bet it's both.
