The last half of this book was so good. More than made up for the first half (which I have to admit I found quite dull). Also the first malazan book where I don't have a surplus of questions afterwards (other than what happened with Icarium but that is evidently RAFO).

I do have a question about the reading order though:

ROTCG > TTH > SW > DoD> TCG ?

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Is ROTG a quick read (like NOK)? I am giving up reading to focus on coursework and exams but wondering whether I can squeeze one more in?! :nuke:

No, it is definitely more like the SE books, so unfortunately not a quick squeeze-in. But it is definitely worth adding it in, possibly more so than any other ICE novel, as it descibes several events that are integral to future events in the MBotF.

RotCG is around 900 pages long compared to NoK's around 300, so no, it's not a quick read. It is quite important though. I wouldn't recommend anyone to skip it for any reason. Like most Malazan books the first half is quite slow and confusing with people and plots seeming to be randomly all over the place, but the second half of it is epic as f**k. If you want to reach the end quickly once you have read TTH, it is okay to read DoD and TCG before SW. I did it this way, and there are no spoilers into either direction.

Wheel of Time and Malazan (And a few others a bit later) ruined an entire year's worth of school for me. I got so addicted I read even in school on most lessons. Most of my grades dropped by around 2 whole numbers! :nuke:

Oh my word I loved wheel of time (with the exception of books 7-10- wtf was going on with crossroads of twilight?!). I read it through my final year of school but timed it so that I started reading in the summer and finished in December- well before any exams!

Thanks for the short review, I think I'll go back and give it another read. I didn't get past the first few chapters last time.
