It has been awhile since I posted here (and by awhile I mean years), but with the new book coming out, and my requisite reread of all Malazan volumes, it has led to think about the possible purpose of Azath houses. In the series, though the Azath houses or locations are noted throughout Wu history, they take on a greater role with the creation of the Malazan empire. We know that Shadowthrone and Dancer ascend via their knowledge of Azath. Yet in FoD, while we see the Azathanai, we have yet to see a 'Azath house' meant to contain other powers. I wonder if the concept of the 'Azath house' was established to deal with all the broken pieces of Shadow, which will supposedly happen in 'Walk in Shadow'. This would explain why the Deadhouse was essential to Shadowthrone's bid to ascendancy.

100% of your answers are found in Dancer's Lament.

I was hoping that was the answer. I haven't read Dancer's Lament yet and so I didn't want to look too stupid by posting in that forum. This one was my next option. Thanks.

There may be a margin of error on that 100%.

Seriously, ask the book and you'll get a satisfying ~400 page reply.

Haha, sorry but by satisfying I mean you'll get a straight answer to your question (since I don't want to give one), not a prediction that you'll be happy with it. But who knows?
