In the prologue, Scabandari stabs Ruin with a "shadow etched dagger", in which "sorcery played on the iron".We have also encountered Draginpur, and the sword Grief which both seem enchanted with sorcery. Is this just a matter of putting a spell on the weapon or is it more intricate in which I will inevitably have to RAFO?

If you finish Midnight Tides you will know more but it definitely varies.

Some weapons are forged, some are merely blessed, yet others have been altered in some way. As you continue reading the series you will learn of other weapons that expand your impression.

I agree with Apt. However, oftentimes, "whatever" item merely means it was made in a certain warren/realm/whatever. It's not shocking Scabandari has a "shadow" weapon.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
