Maark and I are brothers now. Which is scary.

I will definitely be reading and reviewing Incarnate ASAP, though it may be grimmer and darker than I'm used to.
I'm still unsure if Purge of Ashes qualifies as a Grimdark. I don't think so. There is some nastiness, particularly in one story line, but in other places it has some good vibrations.

+1 Rep says my cover is better than yours

Bold words from Tatteredmailman. The covers are my favorite parts of books so I can't wait to compare!
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

You're on, Wrigley's.

If we don't go down the route of using Nixuin's Glyph as the cover, I've got some other ideas as well. Most of them involve Kaenna, but then she's the origin point for the entire series. She dates back to 2003, in fact. I was in bloody school when I started putting her character together!

Your quaking shall begin shortly as my cover should be ready this week, pending changes.
The mock up I was sent was PERFECT for atmosphere, hardship, ashes and armour. With a little more personal touch, it will reign.

My test comes in impressing the Malazan regulars you have ALREADY impressed.
I remain confident despite the urine running the length of my thigh.

And well it should. I am become Grimdark itself. I am GrimMaark.

Incidentally I'm still getting proofreaders coming through to me and saying 'character x vs character y, you bastard'. My cruelty knows no bounds.

Are they ones from before signing? Or are you still getting it proofed despite pending pub?

From before. One of them broke his hand in a nasty bus accident so he's been a bit behind on it.

I should probably add that the proofers had only had hold of it for about three weeks before I got the offer, so I had to hustle the proofers on a little bit.

To be fair, it took me a while to buy Heroes' Die because of that terrible terrible cover.

Never judge a book by the cover! Case in point: WOK had a good cover.

*Just realizes he was called 'Tattered-mailman'*

I hope so. Otherwise I'd have to wait until MAY. It is my sole objective to convert all of Maark's beta readers between April 5th and his release so they turn their backs on him and champion me as their Lord and Saviour and Kruppe.

But then again, he's got a viking's beard. So I'd best stay on his good side.

Unfortunately some not so great news. Incarnate is now no longer due for release. More to follow.

I'm hanging on the "more to follow" thing, but preliminarily, that sucks and I'm sorry to hear it.

BK nailed it - basically the publisher destructured and we were all given the rights back.

However, I am now basically a free agent again so if any of you guys are agents or in big 5 publishing, talk to me!

Sorry to hear that, Maark. Hope you find another publisher soon!
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.
