So its December, 2015 is coming to an end and its time again to plan what to read in the coming year. My thread on this topic exploded last year so I am hoping that we can get together and make another really good list. After all half the fun of being compulsive readers is making TBR piles higher than Everest!

So what new fantasy/sf/other book are you looking forward to in 2016?

We already have SE's FoL and ICE's Dancers Lament. Bakker may be releasing another book and with any luck GRRM will finally bring out the Winds of Winter

China Mieville's next novel, This Cencus Taker, comes out in January. Whoop!

As does the sequel to Robert Jackson Bennett's City of Stairs (City of Knives).

The Spider's War, the concluding volume of Daniel Abraham's Dagger and Coin series, in March.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Although I hated Empire of Thieves, I'm still excited for Thorn of Emberlain.

Hoping for Stormlight 3 next year.

And, of course, Dresdencrack! Peace Talks.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

I don't believe in such prophecies. 2016 is a blank slate.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Which reminds me i'm overdue to read Under Heaven and River of Stars.

I'd like Richard Morgan's new BLACK MAN/13 book but i suspect we're looking at another year for that.
While i'm setting out a wishlist, SM Peters (Whitechapel Gods) and Matt Stover (Caine. Fuck.) are way way overdue.

Back in reality...

Clines' EX-ISLE is due in Feb iirc. Am ridiculously excited about that, i seriously derive far too much enjoyment from that series.

Aaronovitch's next Peter Grant book, THE HANGING TREE, streets in June. Really enjoyed his last two, so looking fwd to that.

Warren Ellis has a psychological techno thriller something something called NORMAL, allegedly in June. As with most things Ellis i will buy it even if i don't understand the blurb.

THE NIGHTMARE STACKS, Stross' next Laundry Files book, lands in June.

...Geez... June , wtf....

Definitely the new Erikson, Esslemont, Abraham and Kay.

On the hist fic front: Harry Sidebottom's third book in the Throne of Caesars trilogy, Douglas Jackson's Saviour of Rome and maybe a new Cornwell.

On the wishlist: GRRM and J.V. Jones. Dangit, that woman is worse than Martin when it comes to waiting for a new book. More Stormlight would be nice, but that one could be a 2017 release.

Do the books have to be released in 2016, or just TBR in 2016?

This is basically my list too minus Asher and Wexler (I've yet to get into them). I'm really looking forward to Morning Star by Pierce Brown and the Last Mortal Bond by Staveley. Also I'm hoping Felix Gilman has something out this year, he's due. And hopefully, Alastair Reynolds and Vandermeer have a showing.

Embarrassing to admit, but the 2016 part of my list is the new SE & ICE. I don't pay enough attention to what's coming out.

I'll just hang out & soak up some ideas

I'm guessing you're aware, but if not, SM Peters published a book called Ghost Ocean in 2009 apparently.

Which I'd missed, and will need to pick up, because Whitechapel Gods is excellent.

Do people still read Asher and are able to take him seriously knowing he's a massive Climate Change denier? I simply can't. Watching him behave like a dumbass about science on the Internet has ruined me wanting to read his books. He's on the shelf next to OSC for me as authors who's personal opinions which conflict with mine are too loud to ignore to read their work.

I didn't know that at all. But to date I have never seen any hint of that in his books. I usually don't care about the author's politics unless it affects his work
