Fuckflix!
Also, can someone explain this:
This reads to me as "we're too good at making hit shows, so we need take more risks and cancel more shows". But, that doesn't make any sense(8).
Also, does that mean that it will become even more questionable as to whether Netflix will give a show time to grow? If so, if they don't focus on the long-tail and building a deep library of quality content, then my having a subscription will become less and less of a necessity...
Also, can someone explain this:
Quote
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings told CNBC, “Our hit ratio is way too high right now. So, we’ve canceled very few shows… I’m always pushing the content team: We have to take more risk; you have to try more crazy things. Because we should have a higher cancel rate overall.”

My read is that he's saying (poorly) that instead of producing six mediocre shows at a million dollars each, generating a million viewers each, they should produce eight risky shows (for the same total six million dollars) and keep the four that are generating two million each.
Basically Netflix calculates the value of a show based on the number of people who watch it (from Netflix, not pirated or otherwise).
Each set of eyeballs is worth X dollars. If the total eyeballs doesn't cover the cost of a series + profit at whatever rate, buh-bye.
Netflix is trying to keep more viewers coming back more often to binge something else. With the six mediocre show model, they get back six million viewers. With eight/four risky shows, they get back eight million viewers for the same dollars.
...and as a bonus, the four failed shows are still new content on Netflix for people to watch until the next season of House of Cards or Orange is the New Black comes along.

But who wants to watch the first season of a failed show with no hope at a conclusion to the story?

I've heard rumours that there is a push to get this nominated for a bunch of Emmys...
I wonder if it won, say Best Drama (GoT can't win this year apparently), if it would make Netflix change its mind?
I dunno. I can't imagine that the show wining a possible multiple awards at the big TV awards show....could be easily ignored by Netflix?
anyways, wishful thinking I'm sure....but we just finished S2 and I'm still so mad we will get no resolution to the cliffhangers.

I have one or two eps to go and knowing it cliffhangs is really irritating.
Still going to watch tho'....
Damn i wish HBO or someone would pick this up. Which is impossible since it was a 100% Netflix production. Fuck8.

I WILL say this for "cliffhangers".
There are positives that come out of the last episode that I EXPECTED to cliffhang, but didn't. There are other cliffhanger moments obviously...more sweeping arcing ones...but two or three of the ones I was expecting (and going to be furious about) were, while not RESOLVED, didn't land on a "I'm SO mad" moment either. That won't make sense till you watch the last episode.

Spoiler
Basically, I think I expected WORSE cliffhangers. The ones we got are still irritating....but if they'd ended the ep like 10 minutes earlier, we'd have had like 3 more to contend with.

SENSE8 S2 FINALE SPOILERS

SPOILERS
Will... I enjoyed Will 'hunting' Whispers thru the visits. Will and Riley's daddy issues were all wrapped up in prior eps, so they take their place as the leaders/emotional center of the cluster, and Will stepping up repeatedly during Sun's attack and again when Wolfie was taken were a nice coda to his crash last ep after his dad passed. Will beating Whispers bloody was perfect, even if they did handwave how he got into the BPO building and the contact room with Whispers in the first place. Ending on him declaring war on BPO was a decent coda. I would have liked to see what he did with the resources of 387 more clusters.
Riley... sometimes it seems like they weren't sure what to do with her this season, but her research trips and provoking the other clusters thru her concert weren't bad. I liked her playing off of Will's former partner. If nothing else, she gave us Puck, who was damn funny.
Kala... i fucking hated Kala at times last season, so they went a long way towards redeeming her this season. Her handful of moments of badassery - the Molotov cocktail at Lila with obligatory "Bring it bitch!", shooting the cars - were priceless. Her romance with Wolfie was stuck in neutral for most of the season but it worked... they almost had Paris
. I kind of wish someone had thrown Rajan off a building.. pretty obvious where they were going with that tho'.
Woflie... ok, we get it, he's the bestest criminal ever and trying not to be. It was interesting to have Wolfie, the most independant and solitary of the cluster, be the person BPO nailed, and that because of Wolfie's fling with Lila - irony that another cluster betrayed him, actually. His action scenes were among the best, and credit to the actor for not being boring even when he spent most of the season sulking over a beer.
Lito... i loved everything and anything Lito and desperately want a Lito/Hernando/Dani sitcom where they just be themselves and i get to watch. He ended in a good place with the new role in LA. Would have been interesting to watch him - an actor who pretends to be a badass - try to keep up with the real badasses, Sun, Wolfie, Will.
Sun... Sun was fucking awesome. That hanging fight scene in the prison remains one of the coolest things i have ever watched on tv. Someone give this actress her own action series immediately. Wholly unsurprising that she didn't off her brother, but in a good way, however gratuitous the underwear was. Also, the boots. "My sister is the fucking Terminator?!?!?" ...hee...
Capheus... i enjoyed his plotlines, even if they were predictable. I suspect they were going somewhere interesting with him becoming a politician and interacting with Sila and SUperpower's less than wholesome influences, but playing a (too) long game. His visit from the four African clusters was a horrible awful tease at what could have been.
Nomi... loved her, loved Nita, loved Bug. S2 was less gratuitous lesbian sex and more kickass hacking and a nicely poignant family drama that was just long enough. The engagement was priceless.
Jonas... deserved to be punched more, the traitorous jerk.
Angelica ... remained a waste of Darryl Hannah.
So we're left with BPO holding Wolfie and knowing the identities of Will, Riley and Kala. The Cluster holds Whispers and Jonas in London, and having taken the 'Cannibal', they have access to all the resources Puck's 387 clusters, Riley's Scottish friend, and Capheus's African sensates bring.
At a guess, i think they would have spent a portion of S3 showing other clusters they had Whispers and recruiting allies, recovered Wolfie early (because otherwise BPO could incapacitate all of them whenever they wanted to), and we would have had an enjoyable but less world-spanning season 3, mostly in London. Might have worked, might have not, hard to guess how a reduced budget would have affected their ability to show the kinds of plotlines that really shined, when someone in their own plotline would, or would not, draw on the rest of the cluster to assist. The random conversations when one cluster member would draw another in to chat or for support - Riley and Sun chatting on the bench, weepy Lito actualy giving everyone else a perspective moment, Kala saving Will from an overdose thru Riley - were painfully well done.
I'm going to miss this show a lot.
A LOT FUCKING NETFLIX A FUCKING LOT.

Netflix resurrects SENSE8!
For a single two-hour finale episode, but at least the story will get an ending now. And Netflix have said this is because of the enormous, worldwide outpouring of support for the show since the cancellation news broke.

I am SO happy with this news. It's not a third season, but it's something to give us closure. Not a lot of cancelled shows get this.
I got emotional reading the letter Lana wrote about it.
Such fantastic fucking news!
Loved the end of the letter she wrote too..."Now let's find out what happened to Wolfgang!"
Also...please note this means we get Nomi and Amanita's wedding...and probably a real life meeting of Kala and Wolf.
