Not reading through the thread as I have only got to episode 2 but from reading QT's original post and from what I have seen so far, I love this show! Haven't met an Icelandic character yet - I don't think? I did notice a bunch of Icelandic places on the music though (Gullfoss, Strokkur and the HARPA centre in Rekjavik.) Have I completely missed that character or have they not showed up yet?

The DJ, Riley is Icelandic, living in London. The actress is British, doing a Serviceable Icelandic accent.

Yeah I watched Ep 3 this afternoon and they mentioned it. It makes sense cos I was trying to work out what her accent was (and Icelandic people have really good English on the whole...) Makes me wonder why there isn't an Icelandic actress they used?

OK seen up to Ep 6 now. Flipping heck this show is intense! I have no idea where any of it is going but I do know that I am slightly enamoured with the Indian girl! :p

Yeah, articles are being written all over the web now praising it, so the buzz is growing significantly.

Finished last night and haven't read the thread yet, but I thought it was overall pretty great. Maybe a little too "easy" for the heroes at times, but that was a fantasy element I just had to accept, and I didn't mind going with the flow. And for the most part I felt the threats were well drawn and palpable anyway; I always felt tension like the other shoe would drop on somebody. Plot-wise it's a decent tweak on some familiar sci fi subjects -- sometimes feels like Orphan Black meets LOST (and I mean both as a compliment, even if it suggests derivative-ness) -- but I don't think that's a problem since it's a matter of TV and film catching up to lit. Besides that the show does a lot of brave stuff that I admire and even love. HBO could learn a thing or two about depicting sex from this show, for one thing. It's clear that the Wachowskis have put their hearts and brains into the show; it feels really loved and cared for. Which can be -- and in this case, is -- better than absolute perfectionism. You could hear the Wachowskis themselves speaking through characters a few time, which some might consider a flaw, but I kinda liked it (big fan of TTH of course). It happens on OITNB too, especially with Sofia and Big Boo, but my reaction is less "this is intrusive" and more "wow, it must be a relief to finally get to tell this story in this way". I don't want to assume too much, but I really admire Netflix a lot for what seems like a fully supportive make-what-you-dream-of mission statement with these shows. It's not perfect, but I really admire this show. The one thing that seemed maybe a little too Hollywood is that every single one of the leads is like extraordinarily good looking. What are the odds! But I ain't complaining too hard -- the Sense8 orgy(?) scene was one of the hottest things I've seen in a mainstream show, and it managed to convey information about the Sense8 condition at the same time. This shows takes post-binary thinking seriously and I love it for that alone.

So is this show basically a Philip K. Dick story on screen? Because I'm looking for a new 'thinky' sci-fi show to watch and I love me some Philip K. Dick and this sounds a lot like him.

Isn't that Golden Compass author? Idk if it's like his books never read him. If you want some entertainment and possibly the best emotional character development in the past few yrs then give it a go.

Haha no. Phillip Pullman wrote them. Phillip K Dick wrote loads of sci-fi stuff - Minority Report for one (though the short story it is based on was called Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep IIRC...)

We have just watched episode 9 I feel like it is definitely building to quite a massive climax but this episode was pretty slow in some ways (very emotional - Lito spent most of it moping because he broke up with his boyfriend! Riley spend time in a cave speaking to the woman who scared her away from Iceland! Apparently Jonas is a traitor?? What?) But yeah, it's still amazing!

Electric Sheep = Blade Runner

(All 10 eps info, so hurry up TisteSimeon!):
I'm guessing Jonas's cluster at one point were indeed BPO collaborators who had a change of heart or at least a schism, but that hasn't necessarily led to being forgiven by older affected clusters (eg Iceland lady). There's a real anti-mutant parallel going on with this story, as far as I can tell. BPO = Biologic Preservation Organization, but it's unclear if the "sides" are as clear cut as (a certain powerful subset of) humans vs Sense8, though it's hinting that way in these early stages. We'll have to wait and see what Whispers gets out of it. There's at least some government collaboration with BPO, and it seems global in scope (though that doesn't necessarily mean universal), but it'll be interesting to see how the lines ultimately get drawn.

Re: Amanita I agree it's entirely refreshing that she believes Nomi so readily. I'm sick of the ever-skeptical roadblock character; any fan of horror knows it's gone beyond cliche into caricature.

I wonder about Nomi's mom though. Just concerned & controlling bigot, or is she linked to BPO somehow? They definitely seem to be the wealthiest family of this cluster.

So far I think Sun is my favorite character. She's also the only actor (of the main eight) I recognize, from Sympathy for Mr Vengeance. The Wachowskis love putting her in slow-mo, and I can't blame them. She has the coolest stone-face this side of Beat Takeshi.

Heck yes just finished. What a stunning feat of art! I truly hope they are given leave to take this show all the way through their 5 & done plan. They can massively go places with it, both literally and otherwise!

Dodging spoilers here... just watched eps 1 and 2...

Have to say, if i hadn't read the early pos comments about the series as a whole, i might have bailed after the first ep, which i found too slow, too long, and perhaps too subtle ... the interesting stuff amounted to the first five minutes and a chicken.

Ep 2 tho, shit got real - the hysterical scene between the Mexican actors, whatever's going on w Noomie, a Bollywood dance number, and that damn cool Jonas and Will sequence.... and now i'm in. I'm so in.

For what it's worth, it took us three tries to get thru ep 1 because sleep kept winning.
Worth pushing through tho'.

Just finished ep 4... and yes, this IS great TV.
