On a re-read at the moment, how do you guys all feel about Kalam delivering the book and basically starting the apocalypse again? I know that the rebels were already rising but I still feel like Fiddler's off-screen arguments accusing him of being a traitor are pretty valid? Don't get me wrong I totally love Kalam and think he's badass, but I still think it was kind of a d#*^ move.

I haven't read that book in years but...

The delivery was going to happen one way or another. Delivering it was a payment to a god. Being a native of 7C he might also have felt that this needed to happen so that they could move past it.

That doesn't change the fact that he had an active hand in starting an uprising that must have cost tens or hundreds of thousands of lives. That's basically aiding in the death of a continent. The question is, who am I the reader to judge Kalam's actions?

God being a relative term in the end ^^

He could have destroyed the book, Membara? Even says so, though he also says that everyone in seven cities would curse him for eternity if he did so.

Didn't Kalam muse internally about this? His enemy was Laseen; the Whirlwind's enemy was Laseen. He felt bad about ostensibly betraying his Malazan comrades, but more or less decided that the ends justified the means.
